Ive paid for sex. Ive traded expensive dinners for sex. Ive sprung for nights on the town for sex. Ive given gifts for sex. I even once wrote a term paper for sex (she got an A and I had a fine time, so Id call that a fair exchange). But had I ever just coughed up cold hard cash for sex, I would have tripped over a legal line that violates the law in most U.S. jurisdictions. Its ridiculous that the U.S. regulates this victimless crime.

The reasons why prostitution remains illegal in so many places generally boils down to two arguments Prostitution sets the wrong tone for society, and it degrades the people who peddle the favors.

The first argument can be described as the conservative one, and it is held by folks who despise sex outside of marriage. They see commercial sex as a threat to the institution of marriage, which is supposed to be the backbone of society -- a conservative society, of course. The second argument is the liberal one, and is usually intended to apply only to women, not men, who solicit their favors on the open market.

There are, of course, abuses in prostitution. Prohibitionists on the left wing "whoop and holler" about women being pressed into service as sexual slaves around the world, utalized, and exploited. Right-wingers, on the other hand, add to their moralistic arguments with public-health warnings about sexually transmitted diseases -- a stronger argument than the sanctity of marriage in the age of AIDS.

But, if anything, both of these arguments are stronger cases for legalization than against. An above-ground hooker is a worker in yet one more legal trade. Beating or abusing an above-ground hooker is much the same as kidnapping a man and forcing him to be a bank clerk or walking into a bar and punching a waitress the perpetrator can expect serious legal consequences. But, when the trade is illegal, its going to attract the same sort ofuisers who dominate all sectors of the underworld, and a hooker isnt likely to risk her freedom to call the cops on an abusive john orutal pimp.

Likewise, a legal prostitute, whether an employee or entrepreneur, is likely to have health coverage and a public profile that encourages healthy practices as a "competitive advantage." To maintain good health, a legal hooker is likely to have a greater willingness to visit doctors for regular checkups. Simply put, the difference between legal and illegal prostitution is the difference between the corner pharmacy and the corner drug dealer.

Prostitutes will argue that they are fully aware of what theyre doing and just want to be left alone to do their business and make a living face the ultimate insult. Theyre told that their first-hand experience automatically makes them victims who are unfit to judge their own experiences. That basically amounts to a bunch of self-appointed "elites" patting the hookers on the back and saying, there, there, we know your lives better than you do. Its also a way for people who claim to be defending the oppressed to ignore people who have first-hand knowledge of prostitution. Moralistic prohibitionists have no need of such a tactic, since they regard prostitutes as the definition of social evil.

So, in the eyes of the conservative prohibitionists, people who peddle sex for money are corrupters of societys morals; in the eyes of liberal prohibitionists, prostitutes (women prostitutes, anyway) who assert the right to exercise their trade are too ignorant to realize that theyre being abused and betraying their gender. Those two things are quite a burden to bear for folks who are just trading pleasure for rent money. Just thinking about it gets me all wound up. And I can think of just the thing to release the tension anybody need a term paper written?

Fear

We were speeding down the highway the roads were slick. When suddenly the car coming the opposite direction merged over into our lane. Soon after I felt the impact of the other car hitting us. During the impact I could feel my leg and arm shatter like a piece of glass. In a faint tone I heard the cop say I would be all right but my grandma might not survive. Soon as I heard this the thoughts of every time I had made her mad or upset with me flooded in my head like a dam bursting.

Suddenly I felt a violent shaking and I heard my mom telling me to wake up. When I finally gained my conscience then realized it was a nightmare and was not real. Later in the day my mom asked what kind of nightmare I had, and I told and she was in shock at what I had dreamed since I was only eight. Soon after that I went to stay with my grandma while my mom went to work.

Later that day my grandma and me went to the store to by her some things she needed for her house. I put the grocers in her car and we set off to go to her house. We made it back to her house thats when we realized she had left her purse at the store so we went to get it. On the way there it started raining and the whole time all I could think about was my dream I had earlier that day. We made it to the store thankfully one of the cashiers had been kind enough to store it away for her. After we thanked the cashier we started heading home on the way I could hardly see a thing. Then I caught a glimpse of some headlights but some thing was wrong they were on my side of the road.

Suddenly all I could think about was my dream. Suddenly I felt the impact like we hit aick wall. Then I blacked out and when I awoke I had no clue were I was. Then I heard my mother voice then I felt some relief. Then I asked my mother were my grandma was and she was in the hospital along with me. Then fear struck me like a dragger in the heart.

I asked my mother if I could see her she said I could so we went to her room, and thats when I noticed my arm and leg were bothoken. When my mother opened the door I was so exited I walked diligently to her bed and gave her the biggest hug ever. Thankfully she escaped with only minor injuries I was so worried that I didnt even know how we wrecked until my mom told me. When she told me we where hit by a drunk driver I immediately made the decision not to drink and drive.

A Vacation To Remember

Beautiful exotic islands, mythical gods and goddesses, and major wars that divided nations. Can you guess what country I am talking about? If you guessed Greece, you are right. My love for the country started when my family and I visited the ancient country two years ago. The geography of Greece is cut up into several islands, piercing cliffs, and raging seas. There were hundreds of mythical gods and goddesses whom were worshiped by the people of Ancient Greece. Legends of several wars still hold strong in the Greek society to this day. Therefore, it is not hard to see why Greeces geography, mythology, and major wars interest me.

The first thing that drew me to Greece was the geography. Greece dominates southern Europe. Bordering the Aegean Sea, Ionian Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea. It is a peninsular country, possessing a group of about two thousand tiny islands. Greece is a chain of several small islands with massive mountain ranges spearing across the terrain only to be stopped by the surrounding seas. The piercing cliffs that seem to jet up over the seas are like a barrier or protector of the scattered peninsula. The rough and rocky terrain may be the result of the all too frequent and very severe earthquakes that have been striking the ancient country of Greece for thousands and thousands of years. Ancient Greece is not a very large country at all compared to all the ancient history that has taken Trippett

place on Greeces territory. The total area of the country is slightly smaller than the state of Alabama.

One of the first cities of Greece that my family and I visited was Athens. Athens is the capital city of Greece. While we toured Athens, it did not matter where I stood or turned, the citys rich and ancient history was thick around me. Some of the old stone architecture, I.e., the Parthenon, was so beautiful and historic that I felt like I was back in the times of Ancient Greece. Athens was filled with so many ancient monuments and chapels. The cradle of western civilization, hailed by many people for the glory of Athens, are the ancient ruins.

The old sanctuary and site of the historic Olympic Games is in the ancient city of Olympia. We visited the jam packed Museum at Olympia. The museum contained an extensive and very impressive collection of ancient sculptures. There is also a rich collection ofonze figurines of the armor theave warriors wore in times of fierce battle. The museum was filled with such a hoary of history that was over five thousand years old!.

The second thing that interested me about Greece was the mythology. There are hundreds upon hundreds of different gods and goddesses that the ancient Greeks worshiped. The Greeks had a god or goddess for almost every emotion, situation, or character trait. The god Zeus was ruler of all the other gods, mortals, and the sky. Zeus also ruled over the famous Mount Olympus. Zeus was married to the stunningly beautiful goddess Hera, but he was known for his numerous affairs, which resulted in many illegitimate children. Athena was his favorite child, which he bore alone. Athena

Trippett

was his muse and is better known today for that.

The goddess Athena is one of the most important personalities of all Greek mythology. Athena was so important because she was the goddess of wisdom, war, the arts, industry, justice, and skill. Athena was a very inventive being as well. She was like a ancient day Thomas Jefferson in her time. She had the personality of on ox because of her

fierceness,ave heart, and strong will.

Not only gods and goddesses rule over the mortals and the land, but mythical creatures as well. The mythical creature Medusa was once a young and beautiful woman. Medusa was caught committing adultery and for punishment was then turned into a hideous creature. She became a winged monster with ludicrous features, sharp claws, and venomous snakes for hair. To her surprise, Medusa could also turn people into stone with one glance. Needless to say, Medusa, once young and beautiful, as fate would have it, turned into a mean nasty creature that could terminate an innocent persons life with a single stare. Talk about a look that could kill.

The last but not least thing that got my attention in Greece was the major wars that took place. Even though there is no single version which defines the correct sequence of events, the Trojan War has been interpreted as a heroic tragedy, as a fanciful romance, as an irony against warfare, as a love story, as a passionately anti-war tale, and so on. The Trojan War was between the Greeks and the new found city of Troy. Many ave lives were taken on both sides. The Trojan War lasted over a grueling ten years.

Another war the Greeks had to face was the Persian War. The Persian Wars were between the Greek city-states and the Persian Empire. The wars took place from about

Trippett 4

500-44 B.C. The length of these wars reflects the fierceness and unwavering character

these ancient people carried with them while fighting for what they truly believed in. These are just two of the many wars the ancient Greeks fiercely fought throughout their history.

With all of the treasured history I have learned from traveling to Greece, I have grown to appreciate the realm of ancient history and how it molds a society. The geography and landscaping in Greece iseathtaking and so authentic. A few times when I was in the ancient cities, I would close my eyes and get lost in all the history surrounding me, and I would forget I live in the twentieth century. The mythical characters I learned about in Greece threw my interests for a loop. I wanted to learn as much as I could about the Ancient Greek gods and goddesses, and their stories. The unwavering moral and determination of the soldiers of the Greek wars not only portrayed courage, but also showed the pure passion that the Ancient Greeks had for their country. Therefore, Greece fascinates me because of the geography, mythology, and the major wars.

In the play, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, ick is detached, unemotional, and very hard to get along with. Maggie, his wife, has a hard time just trying to have a conversation with her husband. Ever sinceicks best friend, Skipper, died, he has been unhappy, detached from reality, terribly difficult to get along with, and he has turned into a drunk. Nothing can makeick happy; not his mother, father, other, or even wife. ick seems to be happiest when he sits around drinking and sulking over something no one can identify or understand. ick misses Skipper badly and blames what happened to him on himself.

One main reasonick is so bitter towards life is because he feels there are lies everywhere and it is not possible to get away from all the lies in his life. He thinks his wife cheated on him with his best friend (Skipper), everyone is lying about his fathers condition, he is blaming himself for his best friends death, and hisother and family are doing everything possible to ensure they get the family fortune after his father passes away. With all of this going in his life, he feels it is best to just be unemotional, to make himself detached from his family and from his entire life. He thinks that if he drinks himself into oblivion everyday of his life it will all go away or at least he will not have to deal with any of it.

Skipper was the reasonick started to act like this. While Skipper was alive, ick was happy and a fun and exciting person to be around. When Skipper passed away, it was likeick died right along with him. His love for life was gone and he wanted nothing to do with anyone. He married Maggie, but did not love her the way he should have. He did not work or do anything, all he did all day long was sit around and drink and play that night over and over again in his head. The night of Skippers phone call did not leave his mind. It was always there, except for when he drank so much he heard the click in his head and then it was gone. Skipper seemed to be so much more toick then just his best friend, some thought they had more of a homosexual relationship. Skipper seemed to be his life support. ick couldnt do anything without Skipper right there by his side. They did everything together, even Maggie was jealous of their relationship. Maggie was so jealous she tried to get between the two to rip apart their relationship, but at the last minute stopped and did not go through with her plan. Skipper was likeicks crutch, helped him along in everything life, work, school, sports everything. Then, suddenly one night, Skipper called foricks help andick could not give it to him. ick could not help his best friend and he died because of it. That was somethingick just could not live with, and he decided to stop living his life, as he knew it. He became bitter and unemotional towards everyone, even Maggie. He thought Maggie had lied to him about that night, so he seemed to begin to hate her. There seemed to be lies popping up all aroundick, Big Daddys health for example, and he could not stand it. He barely spoke. He drank all day, morning and night, until he heard that click in his head that made him forget everything.

Online writing services offer help on Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

Maggie and Big Daddy started to question his actions and he would have real short answers for them. Making sure not to say too much. ick was disappointed in himself for letting his best friend down and was disgusted with everyone else in his life for keeping all their secrets and telling all their lies. He could not stand the thought of him being the reason for his best friends death and tried to blame it on everyone else.

Towards the end of the play, ickeaks down and lets everything out. He tells Maggie and Big Daddy of all the feelings that he has been having that explain the way he has been acting. They try to help him understand that it is not his fault and Maggie explains that nothing happened that night between her and Skipper. ick still doesnt want to believe any of it. He goes on being stubborn and detached and still is not the person he once was. He does end up realizing what Maggie and Big Daddy are saying is the truth, but does not change his ways too much. He is still unemotional and bitter, but he starts to change his ways. I think he realizes that he was using Skipper as a crutch to live his life and he wants to change that, he wants to prove to himself that he can do things on his own.

Order your legalize marijuana or not? paper at affordable prices! To legalize marijuana or not that is the question?Remember back when Elvis, Marilyn Monroe and many other famous people died from an over dose of drugs? Well if youlegalize marijuana that would happen more often; thats why it is illegal and should stay that way.

A cornerstone of the legalization proponents position (1) claims that making illegal drugs legal would not cause more of these substances to be consumed, nor would addiction increase. They also claim that many people can use drugs in moderation and that many would choose not to use drugs just as many abstain from alcohol and tobacco now. But I feel if drugs were more available because of them being legalized that more use and more addiction would happen.

Furthermore, if someone were to smoke during a pregnancy risks of that baby being born with deficiencies are greater. According to National Families in Action and the Drug Free America Foundation (4), babies could be born prematurely. Also within 24 hours a baby will exhibit the onset of tremors, irritability, twitching, vomiting and dehydration. Other, more painful things could happen including death.

"Legalization is a flawed concept. Those who support it are only looking at the issue of drug abuse from a financial standpoint. The notion that somehow legalization will take the underworld element out of the drug trade and result in lower drug prices is ludicrous. To think that this will somehow reduce the drug problem is flawed logic" (5).

Therefore, if the U.S were to make drugs legal it would cause nothing but problems. As you can see from this paper. So lets try to keep America drug free! Because, drug free is the way to be!

INTRODUCTION

Ethics is a very important aspect of the business world. The most important place to apply ethics is in the Human Resource function. When applied to business, ethics is generally defined as The rules or standards governing the conduct of a person or the members of a profession. This definition leaves many holes in which it is solely the employers responsibility to fill. To me ethics is a very important thing. I believe that all businesses should be run under a strict guideline of ethical procedures. When applying this term to the business world I would personally define it as The rules and standards an employer uses to guide the direction of their employees. By this I am saying that the ethics an employer enforces will determine how any given employee will perform every function involved in going about their day to day business. Loose ethics will translate into decisions being based solely on the bottom line, without taking any external factors into consideration. On the other hand, having ethical guidelines that are to strict may cause workers performance to decline. It is very important that each employer look very closely at their business and decide how these rules and standards should be enforced.

There are many reasons why ethics should be important in our everyday lives. They are important in academic life because there is so little guidance for college students. Students have the freedom to make their own decisions. Whether to go out on a Thursday night and miss class on Friday is a personal decision, but deciding whether to not study and go out can lead to an ethical dilemma. By not studying a person may be inclined to cheat or cut corners. This is when a person with good ethics will do their best on their own. A person with loose ethics may cheat. This behavior will facilitate into the professional world. A person who cheated their way through college may be inclined to act in the same manner in the work place. Ethical behavior in the professional world is just as important as in academic life. How you act in the work place will directly affect individual job performance as well as how well the companys workers are getting along. A single individual and their actions could easily affect a whole company in a negative manner. Ethics play an equally important role in other situations such as politics, student organizations, and labor unions. All of these areas require a certain level of ethical behavior in order to operate in an appropriate manner. Essentially, without ethics no organization would be able to operate in a productive manner for any extended amount of time. It would simply fall apart on top of itself due to the behavior of the people that make it up. ARTICLES

PROFESSORS WHO SEE NO EVIL

The key issue in the article is that students today are not being taught the proper way ethics should apply. They are being taught that right and wrong depend solely on individual values and culture, when in reality right is always right and wrong will always be wrong. From an ethics stand point it is up to the professors to convey this message effectively.

BIG LABORS ENRON

The problem stated in this article has to do with insider trading. Senior officers were setting the new price of their own stocks. This raises plenty of ethical issues, as well as legal ones. The main problem here is that the senior officers should not be able to set their own stock price. Furthermore, during the November stock buyback they restricted who could sell their stock back. This is a perfect example of insider trading.

SUNBEAM- CHAINSAW AL

This article showcases how greed can become an ethical issue. Al Dunlap was the CEO of a major Company. In order to make his job performance appear to be outstanding and to enhance his own personal wealth he orchestrated an accounting scheme that made profits appear to be higher than they were. This is an extremely unethical thing to do. Not only is it bad for the company and the people who work for it, it also will effect the millions of shareholders negatively.

CITYBANK/AT&T

This article is not complete. An employee of Salomon Smith Barney named Jack Grumman changed his rating on AT&T stock in order toing their business to his firm. This is extremely unethical. The information he changed, for his companies gain as well as his personal gain, is used by people when deciding where to invest. So instead of steering people away from a stock that they had said was not a very good one, they were telling people to buy. Again an example of a person trying to gain at the expense of others.

LT. COLONEL TWITTY

There are two main ethical issues at hand in this article. First, Twitty never should have lied about what had happened to his cruiser. Honesty between an employer and employees is key to being successful. Second, the people pushing for prosecution of Caucasian employees are now asking investigators to back off Twitty because of race. This is a double standard and it would be wrong to loosen rules for one race over another.

HIGH PROFILES IN TROUBLE

There is one thing I want to point out about this article. That is All of the people on this list were doing things in order to gain personally and to make themselves look good to the outside world. The more I learn the more I realize that greed or personal satisfactions are the greatest factor when looking at most ethics issues. This is why HR plays such a key role in the business world. It is up to HR to hire quality workers from the mailroom to the top floor.

TYCO

This example shows how unethical behavior can have a snowball affect in a company. The CEO is acting unethically in some of his business practices. In order to keep his secret heibes other employees to keep quiet. So now one persons unethical behavior has turned into multiple people acting unethically. Once again, the illegal actions were caught and the company and its investors were hurt.

LITIGATION INC.

This is a slightly more difficult article to judge. Lawyers are "price gouging" clients in a way. While they do the work and plead the case, clients are not getting much in the way of settlements while the lawyer is making off with all of the money. The main ethical question here though is, when is enough enough. When do the lawyers stop suing? It is a matter of ethics.

MY POLICIES

I believe very firmly that success of a company will depend greatly on the ethics it instills in its employees. Although I will agree that in the short run an unethical company would succeed. If I were running the HR department I would start off by having a very clear and thorough mission statement. This is the basis on which your long term goals will be reached. The next thing I would do is to make sure every employee receives a copy of all local, state, and national laws concerning ethical behavior, as well as literature involving company policies. They would be discussediefly in orientation, but at the same time I would stress their importance. Then the employees would be informed of how our company handles ethical issues. Every employee now has access to our mission statement, laws on ethics, and company policies. I would set up an ethics committee and explain to employees that any behavior or actions that may be in violation of any ethical guideline given to them will beought before the committee. It is there that an employee can defend him/herself. The ethics committee will then deliberate and decide what course of action will be best for each individual situation. The committee will be made up of represenitives from all divisions of the company and will be culturally diverse. This is a very vague idea of a system that I believe would be fair and allow to the employees to act as they wish, knowing that there are standards to follow and that it is important to do the right thing all the time.
