Professional debit management firms establish long-term relationships with corporations that may need outsourcing to provide services that enhance their cash receivables. By doing so, the firm can focus on other aspects of their clients needs and not on management of cash flow. One corporation that leads the industry in outsourcing is Creditek. The focus of Creditek is to improve financial performance through quality principles. They strive to provide immediate improvement in receivable performance and create deduction resolutions to enhance profit ability. Their goal is to increase a firms revenue and decrease their losses. John Metzger, founder and President of Creditek, organized this corporation to assist companies as they recapture profits and working capital frozen in the order-to-cash cycle.

Since 18, Creditek has been a key factor in helping their clients process customer claims, enhance cash flow performance, and reduce business process cost. They have succeeded in generating hundreds of millions of dollars to their clients cash flow annually. Other services provided are exception management and revenue cycles consulting. Exception management deals with customers pricing issues, returned goods, and shortages caused by the client. Expedited correctly, exception management issues can be the best way to keep a happy customer-client relationship. Revenue cycle consulting deals with the collections process, claims management, accounts receivable performance, and profits. The revenue cycle consulting is so instrumental because it increases the firms stream of cash flow and working capital.

Creditek services Fortune 1000 sized firms in the United States as well as international firms in Europe and Latin America. Their growth is achieved by networking with existing clients to add numerous prospects from other industries. Having offices nationwide and seven hundred fifty employees, Creditek enhances their clients receivable performance by cutting operation costs. Industrial growth opportunities worldwide help Creditek expand their scope of services. This includes deduction management, invoice collection, credit decision, and preparation of systems conversion.

Creditek is not a publicly traded company. Companies such as General Atlantic Partners LLC, the worlds largest equity firm, invests substantial amounts of money in companies in need of strategic assistance. General Atlantic Partners LLC, invested $0 million dollars in Creditek on May 14, 001. These funds were issued to help Creditek complete technology expansion and ensure rapid growth of the order-to-cash cycle segment of global business outsource markets. Creditek focuses on quality and client financial performance. Being the industries largest accounts receivable company leaves little room for competitors. Companies such as Pyramid and IAB are working towards increasing client prospects. As of now, both companies focus on improving their clients cash flow and net worth. All three companies have a common goal, to help each of their clients create a solution to reclaim substantial amounts of written-off revenue. But neither company can compare to the many clients Creditek services throughout the country. Their consulting and outsource clientele include 00 of the Fortune 1000 consumer goods, services, high-technology, and manufacturing firms. Lets face the facts Creditek is the leader in providing superior client services to companies in need of financial solutions. The goal of Creditek is to continuously build relationships with companies to ensure their financial success. Creditek is dedicated to providing quality service to their clients through their best practices, extraordinary technology, and knowledge. Creditek realizes that significant improvement is the bottom line. Their unique and highly focused insight into the Business Process Outsourcing area will help accelerate Crediteks already outstanding performance. The overall objective of Crediteks organization is to eliminate mistakes and to eliminate poor decisions.

One on-site company, which deals with Creditek, is Thomas and Betts. Thomas and Betts is located at 8155 T&B Blvd. In Memphis, Tn. Thomas and Betts is a distribution company that provides many goods and services to different businesses throughout the country. Our current position at this site is to create a sensible strategy to restructure their finance into becoming a net gain. Our goal and mission is to provide the most innovative way to decrease their overall expenses for their account receivables department and increase their net worth. We specialize in creating a zero tolerance for their account balancing and the exchange of monies and products and services.

Our structure of process is divided into two primary working teams. Each group for both areas is divided into two sections of operational functions. One group is primarily responsible for analyzing and gathering the incoming deductions, receipts, and checks. This group is called the ongoing team. The other section is responsible for applying and researching the credit or deduction. This group is called the functional team. As a group and team we all work together and have been able to decrease Thomas and Betts accounts receivables by over ninety percent. This shows the company that not only will we help with their bottom line but we also have organization behavior skills. Organization Behavior is the field of study that investigates the impact that individuals, groups, and structure have on behavior within organization, for the purpose of applying such knowledge toward improving an organizations effectiveness. As workers or students, we all have experienced conflict and problems in a work or group setting. Although conflict is a natural and acceptable occurrence in the work setting, our goal is to learn and seek effective ways to solving conflict as well as preventing it. Communication is a very important tool to resolving conflict. It will allow us to exchange information, receive and understand each other. The key to finding and implementing solutions is to first identify the problem, communicate the problem, listen to the problem, respond to the problem, and last but not least, solve the problem. Its evident that people will always work and interact together to insure an effective turnout.

The ongoing team is set in groups by regions and alpha sections. Each person has a specific company they work with and have to distribute accounts in alphabetical order. The analysts accounts are divided among four individuals, Employee A, B, C, and D. However, the work structure is divided into two processes, 1) two team members made the calls and follow-up status on accounts, ) two team members receive, gather, and matched all incoming data for deductions. The accounts are divided into section of alphabets A-L and M-Z. Using this process prevents a backlog. Their goal is to complete and clear old accounts from the beginning to the end as well as establishing a current status on all accounts.

At the beginning of the newly structured teams, we were all told that eventually each person would become a full-based full-time receiver of unidentified items. As we were told, the change did occur and the process was implemented. Each person is responsible for their section of alphabets, and one major account. There were some different views and insights regarding the change, however, working as an analyst from the beginning, I thought the change was great and would definitely be more effective in meeting the companys goal.

This change affected the bottom line of Thomas and Betts cash receivables net income. Since our job is based on collecting all invalid deductions, it is imperative that all attempts to collect a debt have been used before write off is recommended. After all prudent efforts have been failed, deductions that cannot be validated or cannot be collected are recommended for write off. We assure Thomas and Betts that before write offs are recommended that all deductions have been research and are fully supported by hard copy files. Working at Creditek for the past two years has raised a question in my mind about the mind-set of Creditek as a company. While Creditek thrives on excellence and perfection with their on-site company, why do they not focus on the importance of employee satisfaction also?

The Problem

Creditek has a growing issue with the retention of their employees. Turnover is costly and disruptive, and has lasting strain on a company and its employees. This can limit its ability to compete effectively in todays business climate. The United States Department of Labor estimates the cost of employee turnover at one-third of the annual salary of the newly hired person. Costs include lost productivity while the position is vacant, recruiting and screening costs, interview costs, training costs, and the cost of reduced efficiency as the new employee learns the job.

Order your Daimler-Chrysler and the World Automobile Industry paper at affordable prices! The world automobile industry had experienced near constant growth through to the mid-180s. The transition from horse carriages to automobilesought about uncertainty over the development of the product during the industrys infant years. As the automobile evolved, demand for automobiles soared at different points in time throughout the world. However, depressed demand eventuated two decades ago after the saturated markets of North America, Europe and Japan. This consequently left industry profitability at a recession. The reasons to why such an occurrence wasought about are explained below.

Porters Five Forces

Threat of Substitutes

The competition of substitutes has remained calm within the industry (Grant, 18). In the absence of close substitutes for a product, consumers usually will not react to price increases and switch to substitutes (Grant, 00). Consumers reasons for demand for an automobile can differ. Fundamentally, motor vehicles serve the purpose to deliver passengers from the departing location to a particular destination. Grant (00) says, "the more complex the needs being fulfilled by the product… the lower the extent of substitution by customers on the basis of price differences". If the intent is solely transportation needs, such a need can be simply satisfied by the substitutes of public transport. On the other hand, more complex needs, such as consumers desiring a more flexible, comfortable, and personal means of transportation, decrease consumers propensity to switch to substitutes. Threat of Entry

New entrants in an industry intensify competition in their respective markets. However, they are usually disadvantaged in respect to competing at the competitive level (Grant, 000). Established manufacturers can hold several abilities gained from survival in the industry that entrants cannot instantly acquire, and these further create barriers to entry into the industry.

It is estimated that over four million vehicles should be produced per year to qualify as a low-cost producer in the automobile industry (Grant, 00). "Economies of scale remains an essential determinant for cost-efficient production, and that without it, high levels of flexibility alone cannot translate into world competitive production" (Husan, 17). The inability refrained most potential new entrants from entering the industry with the exception of Proton (Malaysia) and Maruti (India). Settled in protected markets with acquisition to licenses and support from its government, permits access to required technology and designs of automobiles. This enhanced their ability to produce at low-cost and reduced the distance from established manufacturers.

As a result of increased competition, established manufacturers absolute cost advantages are important and valuable. From experience and early existence in the industry, manufacturers have acquired cost-specific knowledge to drive low-cost production. Though producing at low-cost, product differentiation throughout the market is also important.

Rivalry Between Established Firms

Competing on innovation and cost reduction, established manufacturers created a strong wave of increased competition. As a result of merges, acquisitions, and alike strategic relationships between manufacturers, of small- and medium-sized producers, the industry became more concentrated. Many manufacturers internationally expanding caused greater import activity and construction of foreign plants to accommodate for the foreign markets demand and drive for low-cost (Grant, 18) and to exploit factors that aid research and development (Kuemmerle, 1).

Competing in a sole market may not earn profitable returns; therefore manufacturers decide to participate in other markets. Manufacturers diversifying into numerous segments of the industry caused the number of competitors in national markets to substantially increase. This increase in competition was dangerous for producers who compete predominantly domestically, as they become more pressured by global rivals (Grant, 000), and are often acquired by larger manufacturers as a result, or with other alliances formed.

For its competitiveness, manufacturers standardised designs and technologies of vehicles. This led to great similarity in products between competitors, increasing the difficulty to differentiate for consumers. Inability to differentiate can increase consumers propensity to switchands if they are price insensitive.

The fall in industry profitability was affected by the imbalance between demand and capacity of automobiles. Excess capacity in depressed demand conditions led offerings of price reductions in attempt to disseminate costs over a larger scale of sales. Over-investment in production facilities induced greater capacity, where it grew faster than demand. Substantial exit barriers appeared due to the relative costs to free excess capacity.

Bargaining Power of Buyers

In the output market, relative economic power of buyers is dependent on their sensitivity to price and relative bargaining power. The merge of manufacturing designs and technologies inflicted a low degree of differentiation in automobiles, creating a greater tendency for consumers to switch suppliers of automobiles on the basis on price. The cost of losing a consumer to a supplier in the industry is relatively great when the number of buyers in the market is small (Grant, 00). As a result, the strength of bargaining power of buyers in markets of the industry increased, with the greater proportion of value generated from the transaction residing in the buyers.

There are additional buyers in the automobile industry other than those who consume vehicles for use. Retailers, that manufacturers distribute their products to, also act as buyers. Given that retailers are the only homes of manufacturers products and that there are merely any other accommodations to access the market, their capabilities to negotiate price and to execute specific commands have strengthened their bargaining power against suppliers.

Bargaining Power of Suppliers

Manufacturers play the role of buyers when acquiring vehicle components to produce their products from their suppliers. Manufacturers abandoned backward integration to production and tended towards the Japanese way of production. That is, manufacturers established long run relationships with a particular number of suppliers, creating symbiotic strategic alliances where there is an interdependence between car makers to control suppliers (Banerji & Sambhorya, 18). However, ultimately these suppliers were able to elevated their size and power capabilities. Technology development, beingought about by component suppliers (Grant, 18), has allowed greater power in negotiation and bargaining in their position. Powerful suppliers increasing prices decrease manufacturers profits and/or drive manufacturers to draw more attention on the suppliers rather than their own needs (Cummings & Worley, 001).

The above competitive pressures of Porters Five Forces (Grant, 00) provide judgment on the levels of competition and profitability within the industry. Profitability levels were reduced mainly due to the intense rivalry between established manufacturers and the increased power of buyers and suppliers in the industry. Additionally, international expansion of manufacturing companies found fierce competition in national markets, threatening domestic competitors. These occurrences affect the future prospects of the automobile industry. Predictions towards this will differ depending on the time period the forecast is made upon.

Predictions on the Industry Future

It is predicted that rivalry between competitors in the industry is to continue into the future. National markets of competitors are becoming more concentrated, increasing the difficulty for individual manufacturers to capture market share. This would cause fight for market position and in affect, drive price cuts, decreasing profit margins. A firm gaining some form of competitive advantage is beneficial and important to survive and perform well in the industry. One is cost advantage. Worldwide outsourcing, many to lower-cost locations, produces lower-cost development that new entrants are incapable of and simultaneously, forms a higher barrier to tempted entrants.

Excess capacity occurred due to decreased demand and over-investments in manufacturing facilities in the industry. Potential for market growth is said to appear within the next ten years in Eastern Europe, Russia, China, India, and Latin America. Excess capacity will persist and possibly surface as a major problem if this phenomenon does not occur. Demand was also likely to drop in Japan, Southeast Asia and North America (Grant, 000). With slowing demand also caused by the durability of vehicles and the continuous innovation of designs and technologies, the control between excess capacity and demand will be difficult.

The bargaining power of both buyers and suppliers are predicted to strengthen. Manufacturers, being largely dependent on suppliers for their production efficiencies and quality, were "unconcerned about losing control over production and technology so long as they could control marketing and distribution" (Grant, 000). Furthermore, as mentioned previously, technology development occurred through suppliers. These developments enhanced manufacturers production efforts and therefore, they have seemed to delegate certain decision-making to suppliers.

The foreseeing of buyers also having greater bargaining power originates from minimal product differentiation of manufacturers vehicles. Similarities in products force manufacturers to apply other marketing strategies to appeal to its market. Buyers in society, compared to many years ago, are exposed to more information about products. Educated buyers learn to expect certain features as standard in the product and, furthermore, their expectations towards the product also rise (Czinkota, 000). Manufacturers strive to meet buyer expectations and therefore, lose certain power to their consumers.

Key Success Factors of the Industry

Despite the fact that overall profitability in the automobile industry has declined, it does not signify that all individual manufacturers are performing equally not well. There are reasons to why some manufacturers are performing better than others in the same industry. Some manufacturers may have access to certain resources and perform activities in such a way that permits them to exceed competitors. These elements that drive their performance are sometimes known as key success factors, factors in the market environment that determine a companys ability to survive and thrive in that market (Grant, 00). They are key success factors when manufacturers end up supplying the product of customers and when they can survive competition. This proceeds on to identification of key success factors of manufacturers at competitive positions in the industry.

The ability to be a low-cost manufacturer in the intense market creates competitive advantage. Producing at low cost requires manufacturers to attend to several different aspects of an automobile manufacturers value chain the activities of the manufacturers separated into a sequential chain (Grant, 00). Segments of the chain, from supplies of components and materials to the dealer and customer support, allow closer discussion of cost-reduction in the industry.

Many manufacturers now acquire their components by means of outsourcing throughout the world. Not only does this induce lower cost to manufacturers, but it also offers opportunities for them to focus, and possibly specialise, in fewer activities in the value chain.amorski et al. (000) notes that "Manufacturers no longer compete based entirely on their own strengths…Instead, they compete based on strengths of the entire value chain involving their own organization and their suppliers". For instance, manufacturers concentrate on specialisation in new product development to produce better vehicles in attempt for greater market share.

The adoption of Just-in-time (JIT) manufacturing systems reduces inventory holdings and hence, reduces the costs incurred in the process. Applying such a system lowers carrying costs and investments in inventory. Each is retrieved and pulled from downstream when and only when it is required to replenish vacancies upstream. JIT systems enforce long-term relationships with few suppliers. Consequently, costs are furthered reduced by trust and confidence that suppliers will deliver defect-free, quality components (Davis, Aquilano & Chase, 1).

Mergers, joint ventures and alliances are also seen as a factor consolidating the competitive advantage to success in the industry (Passernard & Kleiner, 000). Such relationships permit exploitation of companies core competences (Wild, Wild & Han, 001). By doing so, manufacturers reduce research and development (R&D), production and/or distribution costs. Manufacturers have also used this strategic move to get a foothold in a new geographical market. A successful example is a joint venture between Japans Suzuki Motor Corporation and the government-supported Maruti in India (Grant, 000). Their initial production of small-engine cars extended to light trucks and now, the manufacturer from the Maruti-Suzuki joint venture is successfully the leader in its market.

Manufacturers grasp the essence of the approach to low-cost production, but put considerable investment into new product development (NPD). NPD has transpired into a very important and valuable capability that a manufacturer can possess in the last decade (Grant, 000). This enable manufacturers to differentiate their products, and in a market where products are growing increasingly similar, NPD is a critical factor to success. For instance, Japanese manufacturers have been successful with NPD, and by the 10s, their advantage over other manufacturers was shorter NPD times in the industry (Grant, 000). Japanese manufacturers attained higher positions within their markets with the access to certain resources and capabilities.

To survive and succeed in the near future, manufacturers must be able to access the above crucial resources and capabilities. That is, low-cost production, the foresight of possible partnerships to exploit opportunities, and NPD, pursuing product differentiation. Successful firms of the industry have thrived in these respects and, simultaneously, distanced away from competition that were not yet able to obtain such skills.

Regardless of the market that manufacturing firms compete in, the most successful in the industry will be those who are able to supply products that meet customer expectations, who understand the drivers of performance success and acquire and exploit these tools to compete. Those who are also able to internationally expand into national markets and compete at a global level see potential for striving in the industry. National markets are becoming more concentrated and competition is continuously increasing. Despite the fact that this might drive down profitability levels, manufacturers seek to survive before they can succeed. Manufacturers only focusing on one geographical market in the industry lack the international diversity and will be beaten by those expanding internationally into their target market (Grant, 000).

In understanding this, it is predicted that the established, experienced Japanese firms, such as Toyota, will continue to come through in the industry. Know-how to low production cost, superior quality and shorter production times is a primary competitive advantage, leading to more efficient competitiveness in their market(s). U.S. and European manufacturers acknowledged the effectiveness of such components and learned to adapt to these practices (Grant, 000). These firms, such as the new Daimler-Chrysler, are also recognised as potential successes. Those manufacturing firms who acknowledge these elements and incorporate these into their practices will have aighter outlook in the near-future years.

In summary, the decline in profitability of the automobile industry wasought about by several structural trends. The fierce competition between rivals and internationalisation caused exits and strategic relationships to form in order to survive. The increasing power of buyers and suppliers in the industry oppositely weakened the strength of manufacturers and that product differentiation had become an important issue in the markets. These phenomena are believed to persist, to a certain degree, into the future, bypassing the possibility that the Daimler-Chrysler merge may induce a phase of consolidation in the industry (Grant, 000). Industry movement is dependent on demand in the markets, and if demand persists downwards, the ability to control excess capacity will be increasingly difficult. However, the future of the automobile industry cannot be guaranteed solely on the basis of past trends. Unexpected events can occur and impact the industry in unpredictable ways.

Have you ever noticed that in just about every animated Disney movie, from Bambi to Lilo and Stich, and everything in between, the mothers are missing? They are either killedutally, as in Bambi, or they are simply long gone, as in Beauty and the Beast, Ariel, Cinderella, and so on, right on up to Lilo and Stich and most recently, Finding Nemo. What is the message that children get when they watch these popular movies, and rewatch them over and over on video? What would Sylvia Betelheim think of these uses of enchantment?

Sylvia Betelheim was a noted child psychiatrist who wrote a wonderful book about fairy tales called The Uses of Enchantment. In this book, she looks at some of the most popular fairy tales--in their original form, not the Disney version--and theorizes about what gives these stories their lasting power, and what children get out of hearing these stories over and over. For example, in the burtal story of Hansel and Gretel, grown ups are often shocked at the idea of a witch trying to burn and eat children. But children find this story very disempowering and exciting, and like in so many fairytales and videos, want to hear it over and over again.

But when the Disney people rewrite and recreate fairytales, I dont think they are thinking about what kids get out of the stories, but they are thinking about how much money they can make from the soundtrack and toys that will come out after the movie is released. But what I dont understand is why they have to keep killing the mothers in these popular movies. Couldnt they create a popular movie where a child either has both parents, or at least has a mother? More kids live with their mothers than w ith their fathers in real lifewhy not in Disney movies?

Order your Adolf Eichmann paper at affordable prices! If I were to say the word "Nazi" the first few things to pop into your mind would most likely be killing Jews, World War II, Adolf Hitler, and theutality towards Jews. Although all of these were big parts to the Nazi party there was still one more hug factor. The most crazed, utal man, who still would claim he was just following orders, was Adolf Eichmann. He, with the help of his "Eichmann Hobby Shops" or gas chambers, ended up killing millions of Jews while serving under Adolf Hitler.

Born in 106 in Solingen, Germany, thisother- to-five seemed to be merely another normal child destined to grow up to be some average business man. His father was a stern and an accountant and it seemed as though little Eichmann would grow up to be like his father. Trouble began toew, though, as he moved to Linz, Austria after his father remarried. When Adolf Eichmann grew to be 16 years of age and ended up dropping out of school. Ironically, the school he dropped out of was the same exact school Adolf Hitler dropped out of just 0 years or so before. As time went on during the 10s Adolf needed to get money so he began to do odd jobs, and while working as a traveling salesman he first heard Hitler speak on the radio and instantly became intrigued. That was it, the one moment that decided his fate, the moment when he decided that he wanted to join the Nazi party.

The National Socialist German Workers Party (Nazi) started out as a small anti-Jewish group in 118 but when Hitler became the leader of the Nazis in 11 he began to improve upon it. Finally, in 14, Adolf Eichmann joined the Nazis in the SS section of military section. Through his training his discovered his great ability to endure severe pain as well as his love for precision and order. After a few hard years in the SS he decided to join the SD, the special operations section of the Nazi party, and as a result moved to Berlin, Germany, the capital. Throughout his work he read to very important books suggested by his boss in the SD. They were both on Zionism, the belief that Jews should live in their own nation while others live in theirs. This goes along with how he always said that he enjoyed sending Jews out of the country. Later on he became the SDs expert on Jews after learning Heew and Yiddish, and finally, after being promoted four times between 17 and 141, became the director of the Jewish Emigration Office.

Exterminating Jews became the Nazis greatest problem. Exterminating them with standard shooting got very expensive and ores for the bullets got scarce. This is where Adolf Eichmann comes in. He was assigned the task of finding a cost efficient way of exterminating large amounts of Jews. Although he and many other members of the Nazi party felt sympathy for the Jews and if it were up to them they wouldnt kill the Jews, he still went on looking for a new way of killing the Jews. Finally after a few weeks of hard thinking he came up with large rooms that would fill up with poisonous gas. These rooms, most well known as gas chambers or "Eichmann Hobby Shops," were made to look like showers with shower head-like objects hanging from the ceiling. The Jews were tricking into thinking they could be cleaned and wereought into the large dark room. Then when they least expected it the gases would leak into the room and the Jews would be in for a long and painful death. As the Jews were dieing, though, Nazi officers would stand in the same room with gas masks on and did this as a training exercise. The Nazis kept on killing even though the war was surely over for them. After the war was over Eichmann knew he would be searched for by Israel as well as America. To avoid being caught in the first place he would always keep a low rank even if he could easily make it to the top the SD. Many other officers were very confused about this and couldnt quite understand why he wouldnt except a higher position. He has even been compared to a weasel by his fellow Nazi members because he could kill and the disappear quickly and without accusing. Finally his luck changed and the Americans caught him but let him go after being convinced by him that he was a clerk.

After realizing that he could be caught now he moved to Argentina to avoid secret agents in 150. His family later followed in 15. To further throw off agents he changed his name to Richard Klement and took a job at a local automobile factory.

It is , of course, impossible to hide forever and this showed as Adolf Eichmann or Richard Klement was arrested by Israeli agents. While in jail he couldnt even eat of go to the bathroom unless specifically ordered to. After a few long years in an Israeli prison he finally executed by hanging in 150.

Order your Chruch and State paper at affordable prices! Thomas Jeffersons reply on January 1, 180, to the Danbury Baptists Association contains a piece of text that to many explains the religious clause in the first amendment. The First amendment states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or aidging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances," an amendment that has been under scrutiny on all sides. The first phrase according to the Liary of Congress is the segment Jefferson was referring to when he wrote his final letter. In the final letter Jefferson states," Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties." To build a stronger case one must look at the original draft also available from the Liary of congress where in the same paragraph he states," Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man & his god, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; thus building a wall of eternal separation between Church & State. Congress thus inhibited from acts respecting religion, and the Executive authorized only to execute their acts, I have refrained from prescribing even those occasional performances of devotion, practiced indeed by the Executive of another nation as the legal head of its church, but subject here, as religious exercises only to the voluntary regulations and discipline of each respective sect, confining myself therefore to the duties of my station, which are merely temporal, be assured that your religious rights shall never be infringed by any act of mine and that. The difference between the final and the original is that the final is less aggressive and takes more of colorful tone. In either case it is clear that Jefferson did not believe a government body should be influenced by a religion because a "sects" leader might influence the decisions of a governing individual obstructing the purity of personal choice.

On September 7, 00, the ten commandments display supported by Judge Roy Moore was denied an appeal to have the monument replaced by the supreme court by a vote of three to six. Judge Moores argument is that the monument was to be in likeness of the supreme courts monument in that it was made to be a tribute of how our government was formed and that it was not to be secular and for those that thought it was were searching for a theocratic government and no American should want that. Despite his argument the supreme court rejected his appeal stating it was a conflict between church and state.

In my views in regards to church and state I believe as Jefferson believed. If you look at history and see how wars like the crusades and every other holy war was started the governing body gained nothing by fighting over a religious belief with nothing but faith as their proof of authenticity. However the one exception is the United States, but we fought for religious freedom to practice our own individual faiths unobstructed by a governing body (amendment 1). With that said it would be foolish to say that our government is not already influenced by ones beliefs, but it is that denying of an individuals beliefs to be forced upon ones community and only the people with in their household that makes our democracy work. So do I believe in a separation between church and state by all means especially because by accepting ones religion we might deny anothers beliefs or happiness. If it aintoke dont fix it.

Order your Hail House paper at affordable prices! Everyone has at least one experience in their lifetime that changes their outlook on life, their appreciation for what they have, and them as a whole. For me, that experience occurred last Christmas when my family and I visited Hale House. Hale House, which was established by Mother Hale in 17, is a non-profit organization that helps children whose mothers cannot care for them. I had read about Hale House on the internet in November and I decided to tell my parents about it and suggested that we take a trip there when it got closer to the holiday season. From the beginning of November to the middle of December we collected toys, books, food, clothing, games, and many other things to give to the children when we went. Our living room was filled with bags upon bags of gifts for the children we would soon visit. On December 15th we loaded up the car and drove into the city. That day changed my life forever and no matter what, I know that I will never forget it. Nothing could have prepared me for what I was about to see and what I was about to live that day. Visiting Hale House demonstrated character, service, and leadership. But most importantly, it gave me a new appreciation for life.

One quality that I demonstrated by going to Hale House was character. Character is who you are as a person, your values, and what is important to you. I feel that going to Hale House enriched my character very much. It made it easier for me to relate to people and for me to interact and be with children. These children had been through so many hard times in their lives yet they were completely open to the idea of spending the day with a complete stranger. Being with these children for the day made me see that even though they had so little, they still had such an appreciation for us being there and for all the small things in life. I feel that it made me more well rounded as a person and that it taught me kindness and compassion. Most importantly, it showed me that despite what I may believe there is a world outside of my mine and that not everyone is as fortunate as I am. Hail House bettered my character and taught me things that I thought I would never learn.

Another quality that was demonstrated through this event was service. When you provide a service to someone you are doing something that helps others. Going to Hale House was a service because I helped those in need and those less fortunate. I was able to make them smile anding joy into those childrens lives. I did something to benefit others and I saw that giving is so much better than getting. Sometimes you give and what you get out of it is so much better than you could have ever imagined it to be. I learned that when you give with an open heart the rewards are amazing. I provided a service to the children and I helped those in need.

The last quality that I demonstrated through this experience was leadership. Leadership is taking initiative, doing something positive, organizing an event, and motivating others. I did all of these things through Hale House. I organized the trip that my family would take and I found the organization we would visit. I took the initiative and motivated everyone in my family to go and to collect things toing with us. Going there also helped motivate the children anding some happiness to them. I took on the role of leadership by organizing, motivating, and helping others. Visiting Hale House was a life changing experience for me. I was doing something for the benefit of others and at the same time I was learning things that only that experience could have taught me. That day at Hale House taught me kindness, compassion, and respect. I demonstrated character, service, and leadership in the process. I was given an entirely new appreciation for life and I stopped taking the little things for granted. It made me believe that the only way to truly help oneself is to help others.

Order your Present paper at affordable prices! My philosophy professor once lectured for an entire three-hour block on how there really isnt a present. I distinctly remember how I felt that day after class. For a small period of time, I was acutely aware that all experience--absolutely everything, was divided between the past and the future. For me, the present no more existed. I cant quite remember how long I remained mesmerized (dumbfounded might be a better word) by the possibility of an absence of the presenttruthfully, it was probably only minutes. Regardless, I know that during whatever time span my mesmerized state lasted, I felt somehow changed by it.

Fast-forward ten years to my "present." I am divorced, have children, and am fighting and groping for some sort of reassurance that the "present" does indeed exist. The past summer my oldest child was baptized. Along with the excitement and feelings of pride, I was confused that I felt surprise and disbelief that it was really time for Sierra to be baptized. The moment I saw her standing next to her grandfather, dressed in white, I became engulfed in the realization that, Sierras entire 8 years of life ran together into a big blob known as the "past," and her "future" was racing ahead of me so far, and at such velocity, that I had no hope of catching it. Catching it is exactly what I wanted.

Catching what? The "present," of course. 8 years have flown by, and I dont feel any older than the day the nurse placed her in my arms. The time from birth to baptism is really just a blink of time. Her first year of life, the funny toddler years, learning to readall are etched in my memory as if they were happening right now, but so long ago. Sierras baptism reminded me of my philosophy professor. Yes, there is a pastyes, there is a future. The present? Ive decided it will exist in my children.

The political socialization of individuals influences their political culture, which in turn affect their political behavior. Political participation is one aspect of political behavior that is of great importance to politicians because of its potential impact on overall voter turnout, societal satisfaction and ultimately the win or loss of an election. For centuries, citizens of democratic societies have participated in the political affairs of their country. This participation has in more recent years however varied from conventional to more unconventional methods.

Political socialization as defined by Dr. Trevor Munroe is "the ways and means through which our views about politics, and our values in relation to politics are formed." Although not consciously obvious, there are agents that are identified as actively involved during political socialization. The primary agents, the family and peer groups, are characterized by their direct influence and unstructured or informal nature. The family is considered primary because at this level, individuals are first exposed to and taught the basic norms, values and ideas that are similar to their parents/guardians. During political discussions at home, the political identity of parents would possibly be transferred from the adults to the children. Peer groups are also thought to be primary despite not being the first agent to create an impression. Children form alliances from an early age and information is exchanged constantly. Evidence of the power of peer groups are apparent within many societies and may arguably be a direct result of economic constrains or the growth of idealisms such as feminism that have changed the roles of women. Where the family falls short, peer groups pick up the slack. The secondary agents of political socialization are very structured and formal. Examples of these are the mass media, the educational system, political parties and religious institutions. These agents indirectly impact the behavior of individuals and their attitudes towards authority; nevertheless, their effectiveness cannot be overlooked. In Jamaica for example, during designated election campaign periods, the two major parties have traditionally been associated with specific colors and symbols for identifying support for either. Party supporters loyally endorsed their support by wearing the chosen colors (red for socialists, green for the laborites) and by public display of hand symbols (fist for socialists, two finger V sign for laborites).

During political socialization, the political culture of a country, society or community is transferred and developed within individuals. For example, the child in Cuba who is nurtured with pro Fidel Castro teachings and positive attitudes toward their country will, if all things remain equal, be patriotic to his country and its development. Cubans who have tried and been trying to escape by boats have most likely been influenced by western propaganda. Most Cubans who still live in Cuba under the Castro regime, are very happy and satisfied with their way of life. There are three distinct types of political culture that may exist within any given society. The participatory very active citizens, subjective more passive persons, or parochial citizens more concerned with their personal and immediate surrounds. Most countries are indicative of a combination of parochial and participatory. The four major factors that influence changes in political culture are firstly, information accessibility and availability. With the advancements in technology within the last century, computers have become more affordable, Internet access has increased globalization possibilities and the media now have larger volumes of readers and listeners. Secondly, a change in the governments performance will influence the level of importance that the public attaches to politics. The correlation between public confidence and governments ability to provide satisfactorily for their people is undeniable. Thirdly a change in the political regime or the definition of the state also affects citizens political culture. When Jamaica became independent in 16, the countrys political culture changed. Lastly, and possibly most powerful is, a change in the economic structure of a society can strongly affect the political culture. During the existence of the USSR, their economy was extremely strong and prices remained constant for 40 years. The changes in the economy after reformation greatly changed their political culture.

Political participation can take the form of conventional methods, for example voting or signing petitions, the more unconventional avenues of boycotts, street demonstrations. Voting as an avenue of political participation appears to be declining as a choice for Jamaicans. Voter turnout has fallen from a high of 86% in 176 to a record low of 67% in 17. More increasingly citizens appear to be losing confidence in the political system, which has failed to solve problems of unemployment, crime and a stagnant economy. Another reason for the decline of voting, as an option is that general elections are held every 4 years, citizens are therefore not left with many other ways of having policies affected or their voices heard. After citizens have tried to more passive approaches of demonstrating and gotten no results, experience has shown that after blocking the roads, results have been more forthcoming. It is logical to deduce that people demonstrate because they are so motivated by various frustrations.Jamaica

In Jamaica, between 186 and 11, the number of roadblock increased form to 4. By 17, there was an increase of 165 more roadblocks, approximately 4% Renewing Democracy into the Millennium, Dr. Trevor Munroe. Demonstrating in the street is not altogether illegal or necessarily discouraged. According to the constitution, citizens have the right to demonstrate as an extension of democratic process, provided the activities remain within the limits of the law. . Interest groups such as Amnesty International and Jamaicans for Justice have had demonstrations that increased public awareness and caused effective changes. In April 1, in response to an increase in gas prices Jamaica was rocked by island wide demonstrations that left the nations commerce, educational system, tourism sector, public transportation and average citizens virtually crippled for three days. The domino effect of which, is loss in overall revenue and economic growth for Jamaica. It is arguable that a favorable response was received from blocking the roads and locking down the country. The initial price hikes were removed immediately; violent street demonstrations had resulted in a policy change. Within a month however, the price of gasoline returned to the original increased amount. In the long run, many Jamaicans who partook in the demonstrations were unaware of the price change until it was too late. The country then had to work even harder to regain its economic footing. The damage to the streets, buildings, vehicles and other assets are now born by the taxpayer. A positive result of the street demonstration was that their voices were heard. President of the Private Sector Association of Jamaica (PSOJ) Peter Moses was named chairman of theoad-based committee constituted by Prime Minister P.J Patterson to examine the gas price hike and recommend adjustments. Although the desired effect of a reduction in the price hike was not authorized, it should be noted that an alternative avenue of participation was created, the committee heard from and responded to suggestions made by concerned citizens.

Guyana

In Guyana, ethnical politics has traditionally overpowered ideological politics. Recent street demonstrations by the minority party Peoples National Congress (PNC), aimed at forcing President Bharrat Jagdeo to step down have become destructive. In January 001, hundreds of Indo Guyanese were robbed and beaten, some 400 protesters chanting PNC slogans took part in an illegal demonstration over election issues and police used tear gas to disperse them. The hostile demonstrations continued and the ruling party Peoples Progressive Party has remained in power. Even more recently, during the launch of rd Summit of Caricom, an anti-government demonstration of approximately 1000 persons resulted in the shooting death of two by police. While not turning a blind eye to the demonstrations or the root of the problem, the PNC representatives have been urged to take up their seats in Parliament in a bid amicable restore peace to the country. Then President, Janet Jagan was quoted "We as citizens have to help in every way, and I hope we can get back to a normal society where people can talk to one another; where people can raise their issues in parliament, where people can go to the courts for justice, but not on the streets,"

Trinidad

In November 18, media reporters from Trinidad march to protest the physical abuse they sustained form a crowd that was allegedly incited to abuse them by then Prime Minister Basdeo Panday. He publicly declared war on journalists and accused them of being anti United National Congress (UNC). Titled March for Democracy, the protest was not only in the form of street demonstration, but included a proposed boycott from the reporting of government matters, an open letter to Prime Minister Panday, a joint lawsuit and the picketing of Parliament. As a result of their protest, journalist were given police protection at the next UNC meeting three weeks later and offered empathy by other UNC members for the attacks on them.

East Timor

The United Nations General Assembly placed East Timor on the international agenda in 160 when it added the territory to its list of Non-Self-Governing Territories. In 174 while still under the rule of Portugal, what started as street demonstrations led to the outeak of a civil war between those who favored independence and those who advocated integration with Indonesia; An example of the citizens political culture changing due to changes in political regime. Unable to control the situation, Portugal withdrew from East Timor. Indonesia intervened militarily and later integrated East Timor as its 7th province. The United Nations disapproved of this integration and called for Indonesias withdrawal. After several attempt at pacifying the situation, war once againoke out and many East Timorese were killed with as many as 500,000 displaced from their homes. In October 1, the Security Council by resolution 17 established the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (UNTAET), as an integrated, multi-dimensional peacekeeping operation fully responsible for the administration of East Timor during its transition to independence. East Timor is now on the road to rebuilding an even stronger economy with the assistance of the United Nations but many lives were lost and families torn apart before a change was made.

CONCLUSION

In popular political arenas, it is distinctly obvious that an increasing number of potentially active citizens have little faith in the effectiveness of employing conventional means of participating in the running and leadership of their country. It is difficult to truly ascertain a correlation between voter turnout and street demonstrations, due to the limitations of enumerating each citizen or conducting a census. It an be construed that street demonstrations appear to be replacing voting as an avenue of political participation, because of the high frequency with which they occur. Virtually every modern society has been the victim of street demonstrations. The differences however, lie in the degrees of volatility, the political socialization of the people and their existing political culture. The justification of these demonstrations is dependent on the effective changes they stimulate and the quality of the communal environment left in their aftermath.

Locke versus Hobbes Locke and Hobbes were both social contract theorists, and both natural law theorists, but there the resemblance ends. All other natural law theorists assumed that man was by nature a social animal. Hobbes assumed otherwise, thus his conclusions are strikingly different from those of other natural law theorists. What would life and human relations be like in the absence of government? Thomas Hobbes was the first to attempt to illustrate this condition using an intellectual device- a "thought experiment", known as the "State of Nature". For Hobbes, the state of nature was not an actual period in history, but rather a way of rationalizing how people would act in their most basic state. He believed that everything in the universe was simply atoms in motion, and that geometry and math could be used to explain human behavior. According to his theories, there were two types of motion in the universe Vital (involuntary motion such as heart rate), and Voluntary (things that we choose to do). Voluntary motion was thenoken into two categories that Hobbes believed were mathematical equations-Desires and Aversions. Desires were things one was moved to or that were valued by the individual, while aversions were fears or things to be avoided by the individual. Hobbes further believed that an individuals appetite constantly kept him or her in motion, and that in order to remain in motion, everyone needs a certain degree of power. Thus the pursuit of power is the natural state of humans. Hobbes then says that nature ahs made men basically equal. He also says that people were constantly in a struggle for power and above all else, they wanted to avoid a violent death. In the state of nature, people were always at war with one another, a war of all against all. Every person had the right to do anything they pleased. Hobbes thought that this would go on until people discovered that they could prevent their demise by avoiding doing things that would purposely endanger their lives. Hobbes also thought that an authoritarian government would come to power in order to enforce the social contract by whatever means necessary. He called this Leviathan. Individuals exchanged their rights in return for peace, security, and protection from one another. John Locke emaced many of the ideas presented by Hobbes in his theories on the state of nature and the rise of government. They differed however, in that Locke believed that God was the prime factor in politics. He believed that individuals were born with certain rights given not by government or society, but by God. This he said, is what gives all people equality. Locke said in the state of nature men mostly kept their promises and honored their obligations, and, though insecure, it was mostly peaceful, good, and pleasant. He says that humans know what is right and wrong, and are capable of knowing what is lawful and unlawful well enough to resolve conflicts. In particular, and most importantly, they are capable of telling the difference between what is theirs and what belongs to someone else. Hobbes says that our knowledge of objective, true answers on such questions is so feeble, so slight and imperfect as to be mostly worthless in resolving practical arguments. In a state of nature people cannot know what is theirs and what is someone elses. Property exists solely by the will of the state, so in a state of nature men are condemned to endless violent conflict. On the social contract, Locke says we give up our right to ourselves. We retain the right to life and liberty, and gain the protection of our property. Hobbes basically says, if you shut up and do as you are told, you have the right not to be killed. On the Violation of the social contract, Locke says that if a ruler seeks absolute power, if he acts both as judge and participant in disputes, he puts himself in a state of war with his subjects. Then he says we have the right to kill such a ruler. Hobbes says that we have no right to rebel, because a king can do no wrong.

Order your Schwarzeneggers Run is A Political Joke paper at affordable prices! Leave it to a movie star to come up with a stunning plot. On August 6, 56 year old Austrian-born Arnold Schwarzenegger had surprised us all by announcing that he is putting himself in the political run for Governor of California. As this political race goes into full throttle, the biggest question is, can he lead enough Californians into believing that he is the only serious person to rescue the state from an unprecedented financial crisis and place it back at least on a path to its former glory? With Californians already feeling he is not suitable enough to be their governor, Schwarzenegger himself not seeming to take this political run seriously, and a bizarre past that would have people question his credibility, I do not believe that he will.

In a recent Los Angeles Times periodical, a poll found that 5 percent of registered voters were not inclined to vote for him. Of course, Schwarzenegger is an amateur politician, one who may have many voters end up asking why? Why the terminator for governor? In a celeity-obsessed society as California, the candidacy of a movie star with little political and no government experience may not seem so bizarre in more peaceful times, but when the state is hanging by its fingertips over a 8 billion dollar deficit? It is simply too insane to be funny.

Making his announcement to run on Jay Lenos The Tonight Show rather than a legitimate news station was an insult to everyone who takes politics and Californias problems seriously, indicating that his candidacy is more about self-promotion than it is about public service. Likewise, his joking remark that the decision to run was his most difficult since deciding to get a bikini wax in 178 was something that millions of Californians who are in real pain and looking for proven leadership must have found to be truly hilarious. Schwarzenegger is not starting out on the right foot if he wants to be taken seriously.

But Arnold Schwarzenegger is not the only lunatic running for governor with an absurd past. There are hundreds more just like him and they all contribute into making this candidacy a political circus. Sure, he smoked marijuana and his father was a Nazi, but look at the field a porn star who wants to taxeast implants; a billboard Barbie in a pink Corvette; a former child actor; an ex-cop who wants to legalize ferrets; a comedian who wants to ban low-low-riding pants; and the list goes on.In conclusion, if Davis is ultimately recalled, and the choice of an alternative is determined on the basis of name recognition alone, Schwarzenegger would win. But if Californians recognize the need for smart leadership by an experienced politician who can Primarily, lead them to a pathway out of this deficit, there are enough practical alternatives to prevent the actor from destroying California and potentially himself. As one republican was asked how well would Schwarzenegger do in convincing the Californian public that he is the right man for the job he stated It depends on how much discipline he has, the first stupid thing he says and it could be downhill from there.

Out staff of freelance writers includes over 120 experts proficient in Common causes of team conflict, therefore you can rest assured that your assignment will be handled by only top rated specialists. Order your Common causes of team conflict paper at affordable prices! The most important decision when a team is assembled is what the goal of the team will be. It is imperative that the teams goals are well defined (Tools for Teams pg ). Depending on the type of team sometimes the goal is given to them and sometimes the team chooses it themselves. In the case of a Self-Directing or Self-Governing the team chooses their own goal (Tools for Teams pg 17). This can be a time consuming process. If the team chooses a problem that is toooad in scope it can make it difficult for the team to handle, resulting in frustration and possible conflict (http//www.vta.spcomm.uiuc.edu/).

Later on in the process there is the possibility for the team to under or over analyze the problem. In the case of under analyzing the problem the team may jump to conclusions (http//www.vta.spcomm.uiuc.edu/). This maybe caused by a team that is being directed to resolve the problem quickly or if the team feels rushed. This problem is exacerbated by the fact that it usually is not detected until well after analyzing the problem, when the team is determining possible solutions. Over analyzing the problem can lead to paralysis and team frustration by endless data collection and debating. If the team lingers to long analyzing the problem it usually gets personal and when it does conflict will follow.

Member participation is also an important factor to reduce the potential for conflict. When making team decisions it may not be necessary that all members be present. However, if their expertise is required, or if they will be affected by the decision then they should be present. Leaving a team member out of an important discussion will build resentment (http//www.vta.spcomm.uiuc.edu/).

In some cases a team may spend a significant amount of time and energy on analyzing and identifying the problem that they just run out of steam. The team should have developed some guidelines to be used to develop the solution. During the discussion of a proposed solution and how to implement the solution members may feel that they have nothing left to give and simply choose to ignore or have lost focus on the guidelines. Member participation will drop or short cuts will be taken. By not keeping the guidelines or crteria in mind when discussing the proposed solution, and how to implement it the team will negate all the prior work they have done (http//www.vta.spcomm.uiuc.edu/).Conflict can be productive

A team without conflict, in the end, may not have determined the best solution to the problem. The real problem occurs when the conflict gets personal, or when the team fails to manage the conflict. Conflict is just another obstacle, and by overcoming this obstacle the team grows stronger through teamwork, interpersonal skills, trust and innovation (Tools for Teams pg ). Also, the sense of accomplishment by overcoming such a large obstacle is a learning experience, ings the members closer, and can increase a teams morale (http//www.vta.spcomm.uiuc.edu/).
