Order your Schwarzeneggers Run is A Political Joke paper at affordable prices! Leave it to a movie star to come up with a stunning plot. On August 6, 56 year old Austrian-born Arnold Schwarzenegger had surprised us all by announcing that he is putting himself in the political run for Governor of California. As this political race goes into full throttle, the biggest question is, can he lead enough Californians into believing that he is the only serious person to rescue the state from an unprecedented financial crisis and place it back at least on a path to its former glory? With Californians already feeling he is not suitable enough to be their governor, Schwarzenegger himself not seeming to take this political run seriously, and a bizarre past that would have people question his credibility, I do not believe that he will.

In a recent Los Angeles Times periodical, a poll found that 5 percent of registered voters were not inclined to vote for him. Of course, Schwarzenegger is an amateur politician, one who may have many voters end up asking why? Why the terminator for governor? In a celeity-obsessed society as California, the candidacy of a movie star with little political and no government experience may not seem so bizarre in more peaceful times, but when the state is hanging by its fingertips over a 8 billion dollar deficit? It is simply too insane to be funny.

Making his announcement to run on Jay Lenos The Tonight Show rather than a legitimate news station was an insult to everyone who takes politics and Californias problems seriously, indicating that his candidacy is more about self-promotion than it is about public service. Likewise, his joking remark that the decision to run was his most difficult since deciding to get a bikini wax in 178 was something that millions of Californians who are in real pain and looking for proven leadership must have found to be truly hilarious. Schwarzenegger is not starting out on the right foot if he wants to be taken seriously.

But Arnold Schwarzenegger is not the only lunatic running for governor with an absurd past. There are hundreds more just like him and they all contribute into making this candidacy a political circus. Sure, he smoked marijuana and his father was a Nazi, but look at the field a porn star who wants to taxeast implants; a billboard Barbie in a pink Corvette; a former child actor; an ex-cop who wants to legalize ferrets; a comedian who wants to ban low-low-riding pants; and the list goes on.In conclusion, if Davis is ultimately recalled, and the choice of an alternative is determined on the basis of name recognition alone, Schwarzenegger would win. But if Californians recognize the need for smart leadership by an experienced politician who can Primarily, lead them to a pathway out of this deficit, there are enough practical alternatives to prevent the actor from destroying California and potentially himself. As one republican was asked how well would Schwarzenegger do in convincing the Californian public that he is the right man for the job he stated It depends on how much discipline he has, the first stupid thing he says and it could be downhill from there.

Affirmative Action, Is It Really Fair?

Order your Affirmative Action, Is It Really Fair? paper at affordable prices! Affirmative Action, Is It Really Fair?

In his address to the people of Nashville Tennessee in 16, Martin Luther King Jr., said, "The image of God…is universally shared in equal portions by all men. There is no graded scale of essential worth. Every human being has etched in his personality the indelible stamp of the Creator… The worth of an individual does not lie in the measure of his intellect, his racial origin, or his social position. Human worth lies in relatedness to God Whenever this is recognized, whiteness and blackness pass away as determinants in a relationship and son andother are substituted." ( Washington 4).

Affirmative action is a government program that was designed to ensure that Blacks and other minorities enjoyed the same opportunities for promotions, salary increases, career advancement, school admissions, scholarships and financial aid that had been exclusively for whites. Some would argue that, this preferential treatment creates reverse discrimination and is harmful to our society. Even though affirmative action was designed to help Blacks and minorities, many view it as government sanctioned discrimination that should be eliminated.

Affirmative Action has outlived its usefulness. "For black people during the 160s there was a presumption of inferiority, affirmative action was the shock treatment to change our culture," says Ward Connerly, one of the architects of the CCRI (California Civil Rights Initiative). According to Connerly, America is no longer the inherently racist society it was in the days of Jim Crow. Statistics cited by Stephan and Abigail Thernstrom, authors of "America in Black and White One Nation, Indivisible," appear to back Connerlys notion that the situation for black Americans has vastly improved. According to the Thernstroms, 40 percent of black Americans now consider themselves members of the middle class. Forty-two percent own their own homes and almost a third of the black population lives in suburbia. (Grapes 6). Because the American dream is realizable for black people today, Ward Connerly argues that it is really hard to defend affirmative-action preferences. (Grapes 6). Affirmative action is harmful to our society because it promotes racial preferences. In order to establish a color-blind society, people should be judged on their abilities, not the color of their skin. The American people are now beginning a great debate over the use of race and gender preferences by federal, state, and local governments. In 16, a majority of voters in California, including percent of Blacks, approved the California Civil Rights Initiative prohibiting preferential treatment in public employment, education, and contracting. (Grapes). In a series of cases, the Supreme Court and federal courts of appeal have made it clear that the system of preference is built on a exceedingly shaky foundation. (Grapes). These cases establish that racial classifications are presumptively unconstitutional and will be permitted only in extraordinary circumstances. In the future, Congress is likely to consider legislation to end the use of race and gender preferences by the federal government.

Affirmative action programs really call for reverse discrimination (discrimination against white males). By granting special treatment to certain groups on the basis of race, affirmative action highlights racial distinctions and exacerbates racial conflict. As recently as November 16, white students with higher SAT/ACT scores and higher grade point averages were not admitted to the University of Texas, due to the color of their skin. (Graglia 47). No Black applicant to the University of Texas law school, for example, has ever been denied preferential admission or financial assistance on the grounds that he is not disadvantaged or, indeed, is advantaged. It has only been necessary, and quite sufficient, that the applicant be Black. Preferential admission to selective colleges and graduate schools is an exceptionally inappropriate way of helping the children of the underclass because it tells young blacks that they do not have to dedicate themselves to school as much as other students do.

Affirmative action harms the minority students because they are being placed in elite schools in order to promote diversity. (Canady 8). These students are capable of exceeding in other good colleges, however, they are failures at these high-pressure schools. Minority students who are placed in these colleges are failures because only exemplary students with exemplary test scores are able to succeed. Some blacks would argue that, the reason for the difference in test scores are due to poverty, low income, and poor living conditions. "In 15, the mean SAT score for black students nationwide from families making $50,000 or more was a mere 84 out of 1600. This must be compared with the mean score in 15 for white students from families earning $10,000 or less i.e., really no money- 86."(Newsweek 64). Important facts were left out concerning the declining enrollment of Blacks at the University of California at Berkeley. During the decade of the 180s, Berkeleys rapid increase in the number of Black students on campus did not compare with the number of Blacks actually graduating. (Sowell 51). At one point, the number of Black students graduating declined significantly, while the number of Blacks on campus increased. This is what happens when racial body count is more important than education. Now that affirmative action has ended, many Black students are seeking other colleges. For example, there has been an increase in the number of Black applicants who meet the admissions standards at the University of California at San Diego. (Sowell 51). Is it not more important to have these students go where they are more likely to graduate, rather than have them serve as temporary tokens just for the sake of "diversity?"

Although affirmative action programs were designed to help Blacks and minorities, is it really fair? There are laws in place that deals with equal opportunity for every citizen. Does every citizen in America have an opportunity for advancement? How effective are affirmative action programs when these programs move America away from the goal of achieving a color-blind society? How can one justify a program that promotes discrimination, racial preferences, and sexual bias? Affirmative action was meant as a temporary policy to redress those who felt discriminated against under Jim Crow laws. Furthermore, those who benefit from affirmative action today are granted preferential treatment "based not on past discrimination, but simply being born into a protected group." To continue using affirmative action policies would be unfair and unjust to those who are not members of protected groups."

I had to search for some tissues to stop the bleeding but all I could find was an old wrinkled piece of paper to cover the cuts. I noticed the time and it was 70am, which meant I had a half hour to get to the school where I teach. I had left the McDougall house in a hurry. As I started to walk to school one of the patches from my coat had gotten caught on the fence just outside the McDougall property. I had to fight to get loose knowing it would end up in another rip in my worn out coat. I would have to ask Mrs. McDougall to sew my jacket again. I arrived at school just before the bell had rung. I entered my classroom with half the children present, like always. Most of the kids were at home helping their families with the chores. The lunch bell had finally rung. As I was walking to the prep room I noticed a couple of kids without a lunch. I walked over to them and handed them the lunch Mrs. McDougall prepared for me. It was a baloney sandwich and an apple. The kids delighted with what I had to offer. The school day was over and I made it home just in time for supper. The McDougalls served me my food in my room. The food was cold and made my stomach hurt, so I fed it to the dog. I went to sleep hungry ending another typical day.

Order your Common causes of team conflict paper at affordable prices! The most important decision when a team is assembled is what the goal of the team will be. It is imperative that the teams goals are well defined (Tools for Teams pg ). Depending on the type of team sometimes the goal is given to them and sometimes the team chooses it themselves. In the case of a Self-Directing or Self-Governing the team chooses their own goal (Tools for Teams pg 17). This can be a time consuming process. If the team chooses a problem that is toooad in scope it can make it difficult for the team to handle, resulting in frustration and possible conflict (http//www.vta.spcomm.uiuc.edu/).

Later on in the process there is the possibility for the team to under or over analyze the problem. In the case of under analyzing the problem the team may jump to conclusions (http//www.vta.spcomm.uiuc.edu/). This maybe caused by a team that is being directed to resolve the problem quickly or if the team feels rushed. This problem is exacerbated by the fact that it usually is not detected until well after analyzing the problem, when the team is determining possible solutions. Over analyzing the problem can lead to paralysis and team frustration by endless data collection and debating. If the team lingers to long analyzing the problem it usually gets personal and when it does conflict will follow.

Member participation is also an important factor to reduce the potential for conflict. When making team decisions it may not be necessary that all members be present. However, if their expertise is required, or if they will be affected by the decision then they should be present. Leaving a team member out of an important discussion will build resentment (http//www.vta.spcomm.uiuc.edu/).

In some cases a team may spend a significant amount of time and energy on analyzing and identifying the problem that they just run out of steam. The team should have developed some guidelines to be used to develop the solution. During the discussion of a proposed solution and how to implement the solution members may feel that they have nothing left to give and simply choose to ignore or have lost focus on the guidelines. Member participation will drop or short cuts will be taken. By not keeping the guidelines or crteria in mind when discussing the proposed solution, and how to implement it the team will negate all the prior work they have done (http//www.vta.spcomm.uiuc.edu/).Conflict can be productive

A team without conflict, in the end, may not have determined the best solution to the problem. The real problem occurs when the conflict gets personal, or when the team fails to manage the conflict. Conflict is just another obstacle, and by overcoming this obstacle the team grows stronger through teamwork, interpersonal skills, trust and innovation (Tools for Teams pg ). Also, the sense of accomplishment by overcoming such a large obstacle is a learning experience, ings the members closer, and can increase a teams morale (http//www.vta.spcomm.uiuc.edu/).

Out staff of freelance writers includes over 120 experts proficient in Macbeth, therefore you can rest assured that your assignment will be handled by only top rated specialists. Order your Macbeth paper at affordable prices! Macbeth Essay Is Macbeth A Tragic Hero Or A Tyrant?

Macbeth, one of Shakespeares most emotive plays, is set in Scotland during the 11th Century and follows the downfall of a man who is led by temptation to mass murder and cruelty. Macbeth, at different stages in the play, demonstrates many of the characteristics of both an evil tyrant and a tragic hero. However, a tragic hero is defined as a great man who falls because of a fatal flaw and Macbeth bests fits this description. Therefore Macbeth fits the role of a tragic hero and not a tyrant.

In Aristotles "Poeticus", an ancient Greek drama, the definition of a tragic hero includes several criteria. Firstly, the character must be important and his actions must affect many people. Secondly, the character must be good-natured, well known, respected andave and of good repute. The third criterion is that the character must have one tragic flaw, which leads to his downfall. Last of all, the tragic hero must redeem himself despite his flaw and eventually create sympathy for the character.

Macbeth is presented at the start of the play as a noble man, one full of all the good qualities a man could desireavery, strength, loyalty, manliness and health. In Act 1 Scene , Macbeth is talked of as a heroic warrior that "andished steel which smoked with bloody execution". Many other characters in the play also see Macbeth as a honourable man, with the King acknowledging this with comments such as "O valiant cousin, worthy Gentleman". Indeed, if Macbeth did not display these characteristics, then the title of Thane of Cawdor would not have been bestowed upon him in the first place. Already, Macbeth is appearing to fit the criteria for a tragic hero, as he is of good repute and is respected, ave, and honourable. As well, his actions have so far affected many people, as he has saved Scotland from invasion and played a large part in a battle (another criteria of a tragic hero). The other characteristic of a tragic hero is a flaw in the character. In Macbeths case, it is his unnaturally large sense of ambition and pride, his imagination and insecurity as a man that contributes to his demise. His unnaturally large amount of ambition is even acknowledged by Macbeth in Act 1 Scene 7. "I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition which oerleaps itself and falls on thother..". This refers to Macbeths motivation to kill Duncan. Macbeths ambition is the central driving force for almost all of his actions in the play, and it is the witches who play on this ambition.

Macbeths insecurity as man is another one of his character faults. Macbeth can "prove" his manliness on the battlefield easily, however Lady Macbeths knowledge of Macbeths lack in manliness in other areas allows her to easily manipulate Macbeth to kill the king. In Act 1 Scene 7 after Macbeth makes the tentative decision not to kill Duncan, Lady Macbeth questions Macbeths manhood by stating, "When you durst do it, then you were a man". Lady Macbeth also offers another taunt in Act Scene 4 after Macbeths sight of Banquos ghost by asking "Are you a man?" to call for Macbeths regain in composure. This insecurity in his manhood is played upon by Lady Macbeth and others in such a way that leads Macbeth to commit dreadful deeds.

Macbeths last character fault is his imagination. This flaw grows in size as the play progresses. At first regarding the witches prophecies, his imagination allows him to contemplate killing the king. Then as his imagination grows more fanciful he begins seeing ghosts. This delusional behaviour is a manifestation of Macbeths imagination in real life. As a result of all these character flaws, Macbeth is driven on to murder increasingly until he realises that to turn back would be just as hard as to keep going.

Even though now, Macbeth fits some of the criteria as an evil tyrant someone who is merciless, has a lack of compassion for others, is generally disliked, and kills for his own personal gain; it is important to note that Macbeth did not start out as evil. He was once a "worthy gentleman". Even when Macbeth is at the epitome of his evil, he still has a sense of compassion in which he demonstrates when Lady Macbeth kills herself. Here, heoods on lifes futility, clearly in a weak show of grief; "out, outief candle, lifes but a walking shadow". Another sign that Macbeth has not turned into an evil tyrant is his willingness to show mercy.

Before Macbeth kills Duncan, Lady Macbeth attacks Macbeth and convinces him to eliminate Duncan. However Macbeth shows reluctance to be disloyal to his king and tells his wife that he "..will proceed no further in this business.." as he has "golden opinions from all sorts of people..". In this case, Macbeth shows mercy and proves that he has a conscience and is not purely evil.

According to Aristotle, a tragic hero must also evoke pity and sympathy from the audience. From the moment that Macbeth decides to live a lie in Act 1 Scene 7 "False face must hide what false heart doth know," the audience knows that he has condemned himself. They know that all the things he thought of in the soliloquy earlier in the same scene (Act 1 Scene 7, L1-8) will come true that the killer is damned for eternity and that the killer will be killed. The audience immediately feels a pang of pity for the once valiant man now so obviously on a trail to self-destruction. From here, Macbeth digs his own pit and his thoughts do come true, with Lady Macbeth committing suicide and rendering Macbeth loveless and the arrival of Macduff and the English army to overthrow Macbeth.

When Macduff does arrive and threatens the "hell hound" that he will be exhibited in captivity if he will not fight, Macbeth chooses death, as he could not bear to be subservient to Malcolm and be exhibited like a caged animal. Macbeths choice of death over capture gives him back some of his earlier stature and the audiences pity and sympathy for the once great man rises to a climax. This ability to induce pity and sympathy in the audience is the last ingredient of the tragic hero formula. Its presence proves Macbeth is not simply a tyrant.

In conclusion, Shakespeares character Macbeth is a perfect tragic hero, not a tyrant. Macbeth was once a great man of high distinction whom, because of his fatal flaws of ambition, insecurity and imagination commits the most heinous of sins and unwittinglyings about his own downfall with the effect of creating sympathy and pity from the viewers. Macbeth moves from a loyal heroic warrior, to hell hound to one who regains some of his earlier nobility and dignity before he dies. These factors combine to produce a masterfully crafted tragic hero who is far more then a simple tyrant.

States should not concern themselves with human rights, only with their own security and the preservation of peace.

In concerning themselves with security and the preservation of peace, states must concern themselves with issues such as human rights. The preservation of peace is an extremely important issue, particularly in these times of uncertain international security and must be addressed by states in a manner that keeps human rights issues in mind. The Tampa episode of 001 is a prime example of the decisions that must be made when the issues of human rights and national security come together. If a nation must decide between its stance on human rights and its security, which will prevail? With regards to Australia and the human rights records of some of our neighbours, we must take into account the so-called, Asian Culture and the view in some parts of South and East Asia; community good is valued over the good of the individual. Also, when addressing human rights issues, states must be wary of their own records on human rights abuses before making assertions against other nations. Which countries in the world today can claim to have a perfectly clean record in terms of human rights?

A nation must not be allowed to decide whether human rights should be observed or not. Issues such as international security and the preservation of peace, especially in these times of terrorist activity and the threat of war, are concerns that must be addressed while keeping in mind the international affairs that will shape the future. Through the process of ensuring national security and endeavouring to preserve peace throughout the world, it is inevitable that human rights issues be addressed in the process. In looking at the concept of peace, one must consider the issues of power relations and the effects these can have on a nation, to force a nation in a dire economic situation, for example, to act against its will in order to secure aid. The concept of peace, in the current political climate, requires the worlds superpower, the USA, in association with the high level middle-powers, such as Greatitain and perhaps China, to utilize diplomatic skills in order to act on current issues. Bearing this in mind, a nation must observe and form opinions on the actions of its fellow states so as to be able to keep an informed view of world events. If those key nations do not take an interest in the happenings in other states, the potential for an unexpected event increases exponentially. In this manner, subjects such as human rights must be raised on a global stage, both within and without the United Nations, an organisation in dire need of re-defined role if it is to remain an influence into the 1st Century. To uncover past and prevent future abuses but also to enable the key political and military powers to sit down and discuss the possibility of world peace is a process that will not happen until cooperation is achieved, through understanding and acceptance of cultural and political differences, including each others stance on issues like human rights. The USA would argue, however, that an alternate route to a peaceful world is through the removal of opponents to the Western ideal, a concept which remains a real possibility, especially following the quick success the so-called, "coalition of the willing" encountered in the War on Iraq. The Tampa episode was an event thatought about a conflict of interests in the Australian government with regards to the conflict of interests between the Howard governments stance on human rights, namely, the policy that states,

"The Australian Governments policies on human rights are based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and subsequent international human rights instruments that enshrine the principles of universality and indivisibility of human rights. Australian policy, therefore, does not presume to hold other nations to standards that we do not apply to ourselves.

Fourthly, the Government believes that attention and consideration should be given to the promotion, protection and implementation of all human rights, whether they be civil, political, economic, social or cultural." (Hon. Alexander Downer, MP, 0 July 00)

The dilemma facing the government was the decision whether the above policy on human rights should prevail over the immigration policy and the governments stance on Boat People. Australia could not legitimately claim to be a sympathetic nation with regards to those suffering from human rights abuses while turning away a boat full of people claiming to be persecuted in their home countries of Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, and being of ill health. Ultimately, the Howard government used military force to seize the ship, justifying this strategy by claiming they must, "draw a line on what is increasingly becoming an uncontrollable number of illegal arrivals." (John Howard, 5 September 001). The decision about what to do with the passengers aboard the Tampa was an international crisis until, on August 1, 001, New Zealand offered to accept 150 of the 44 refugees and the tiny pacific nation of Nauru accepted the remainder in return for Australian financial aid. The Tampa episode was a demonstration of the fact that the Australian government is determined not to be seen as an easy entry nation and will turn away those in need in order to maintain that image. The strategy applied to the Tampa episode showed that Australia is a nation strongly concerned with "Border Protection Policy". The incident put an image across to Australian voters that, while claiming to be strongly against the abuses of human rights in our neighbouring nations, Australia is concerned primarily with domestic issues. It is easy to look at the Tampa episode and heap blame on to Australia for the mistreatment of those 44 refugees denied entry to this country for reasons seemingly inhumane. The fact remains, however, that Australia, in refusing those refugees, was adhering to the current policy on illegal immigrants. Not one boat of refugees has entered Australian waters since the Tampa crisis. Thus Howard is following through on his policy remarkably well. Theutal stance taken by the Howard government demonstrated the fact that Howard will adhere to his policy, a position which was to help him gain a third term in power. In handling the Tampa crisis, the Howard government neglected the clause in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states, "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with conscience and reason and should act towards one another in a spirit ofotherhood." (Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 1, 148), and also that, "no one shall be subjected to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment." (Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 5, 148).

An editorial in Englands, The Independent newspaper put it well when optimistically musing that, "The least we can hope of democratically elected political leaders is that they should behave with a glimmering of humanity." (The Independent, 0 August 001). The handling of the Tampa Crisis demonstrated the Howard governments unwillingness to act in a manner that would go against policy, dealing with the backlash by manipulating the media to project a false image to the Australian public, hence removing any sympathy the nation might have had for the refugees. This manipulation of public opinion led to a Senate inquiry that found "…former defence Minister Peter Reith had seriously misled the public during the election campaign." (Sydney Morning Herald, 1October 001). If one considers the Liberal government to have a policy of a deliberately tough stance with regards to refugees (mandatory detention, etc.) then once again it is doing well on its own terms. The Tampa incident was not necessarily badly handled foreign policy; it was a privileging of domestic politics over international politics, which won Howard an election at the cost of regional standing. The Tampa episode demonstrated to the world that Australia, specifically the Liberal government of the day, has the capability to act in a manner that will result in a strengthened position, if not in global politics, then at least domestically. Australia concerned itself with domestic affairs, placing human rights in a secondary light. This strategy employed may ultimately strengthen Australias position in world affairs through an increasing recognition of the governments dexterity in coping with a crisis of Tampas magnitude.

In arguing for the preservation, or indeed the sheer presence, of human rights, particularly in the South East Asian region, Australian officials must take into account the so-called Asian Culture. This is a concept developed by Asian leaders such as Malaysias Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir that refers to, primarily, and for the purposes of this argument, the differing views between Asia and the West with regards to human rights. In Asian Culture, the community is seen as paramount, starting from the family andanching up to national interests and is far more important than the individual. In other words, human rights are a secondary issue. Dr. Mahathir, along with other advocates of Asian culture, argues that Australia cannot successfully engage with Asia, and as such has no business in advocating and attempting to protect human rights in the region because of its majority Western culture. While the argument of an Asian Culture is valid to an extent, the claim comes apart when one considers the sheer size and diversity of cultures that make up the continent of Asia. The South East Asian region alone is a melting pot of all sorts of cultures and religions, ranging from Islamic Indonesia and Malaysia to mainly Catholic Philippines. It is safe to say that the claim of an Asian Culture presiding over the running of Asian nations is not as pertinent as some claim. Bearing this in mind, one must ponder whether Australia has the right to involve itself in the issue of Asian human rights, not because of the so-called Asian Culture but does Australia itself have such a clean bill of health when considering our own human rights record?

From the arrival of the first settlers in 1788, Australias record on human rights has been dubious to say the least. From Governor Philips Conciliation of the Natives scheme, in essence a kidnapping plot, through to the Stolen Generation, Australian history is riven with abuses of human rights. While the Universal Declaration of Human Rights has only been in existence since 148, prior to this, it is easy to determine that human rights were abused throughout time, not least in Australia. The point of illustrating the past record of Australian governments on human rights is that in discussing whether states should address the problems in human rights in other nations, whether as a primary or secondary focus, one must consider the fact that it is not easy to find a nation in the world today that has not, at some stage in its history, had a poor record in terms of human rights abuses. Take into account the Americans treatment of the prisoners at Camp X-Ray in Cuba; those prisoners have been subjected to sensory deprivation, a form of torture, since their capture, the ongoing controversy over the deprivation of human rights in China, the tyrannical regime that ruled in Iraq for over 0 years through a system of violence and fear. In Australia, our indigenous people were not considered citizens until168 and have still not been sufficiently reconciled in terms of past atrocities such as the Stolen Generation scandal. In effect, it can be argued that no nation has the right to condemn a nations human rights record, because no nation has a perfect record itself. A nation must endeavour to find a balance when approaching domestic and international affairs, a balance that secures the nations future while dealing with international concerns.

Human rights issues must be observed, along with other international issues, if a nation is to secure itself and the world is to continue to strive for peace. "The promotion and protection of human rights is important to Australias national interest because it underpins the countrysoader security and economic interests." (Hon. Alexander Downer, MP, 0 July 00). An isolationist policy is no longer viable, due to the fact that it represents ignorance and an unwillingness to work towards a more peaceful future. Should a nation refuse to acknowledge the events of the world, it risks having its security restricted by another nation. In dealing with the Tampa episode, Prime Minister Howard took decisive action to secure domestic interests but in doing so created a crisis out of nothing. This eventuated in the strengthening of his political base but did little to show that Australians have the ability to, " Act towards one another in a spirit ofotherhood." (Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 1,148). In the Tampa episode, human rights became a secondary factor in order to secure the nations border. A state should address issues as they come to light, not create them for political gain, as the Howard government did in August 001. The pertinent issues of the day must be attended to with a view to maintaining, or bettering, the living standards of the state. "Human rights are important in the conduct of Australian foreign policy because the treatment of individuals is a matter of concern to Australia." (Hon. Alexander Downer, MP, 0 July 00).

Do you love Italian food? Well you are in luck, because on 7th Street in Los Angeles, there is a great Italian restaurant called the Ciao Trattoria. It is a nice clean-cut restaurant for people of all ages, shapes and sizes. Many people take their families there so you will have no problems taking your children as well. There is also a bar in the corner of the restaurant, so if you want to relax and have a few drinks before or after dinner you may do so as well. If you are ever looking for good Italian food, the Ciao Trattorial offers a nice Italian atmosphere, great food and fast service.

The Ciao Trattorial has a nice Italian surrounding that gives it an authentic Italian atmosphere. The exterior of the restaurant is made out ofick, which gives you the impression that you are in a villa. Its interior is made mostly of wood, but is decorated with many stone like walls. Also on the walls are shelves, which are filled with many wine bottles, it kind of makes you feel like you are in a winery. In addition to the restaurants atmosphere is the servers. The waiters who work there speak with Italian accents which make you feel like you are in Italy.

If you have ever had a taste of home made Italian food, I bet the Ciao Trattorial would be the closest thing to it. When you go to the restaurant, order the tasty Barbequed Chicken Pizza. It is delicious! I usually order pizza when I go to an Italian restaurant, and I will have to say that the barbequed chicken pizza has been one of the best that I have tasted. It is a thin crust pizza undercoated with fresh tomato sauce, hot melting mozzarella cheese, and covered with barbequed chicken marinated in barbeque sauce sprinkled with cilantro. The restaurant makes great pasta as well. I tried some of my friend shrimp pasta when I visited the Ciao. It was pretty good. It was marinated in creamy sauce and covered with shrimp. I dont like seafood, but I wouldnt mind having an order of shrimp pasta at the Ciao Trattorial. Not only is the food great, but the service is good as well. I dont think I have ever had service like this. The waiters are friendly and more than willing to meet your needs. Our server came to our table and offered us some Parmesan cheese, and we accepted. I was expecting the typical powdered cheese, but I was shocked when I saw him grating cheese on my plate. They prepared our food pretty fast too, considering I was with a large group of people and we ordered a lot of food. If I have had a chance to fill out a report card for the Ciao Trattorial, they would have received an A for promptness, courtesy and friendliness.

The Ciao Trattorial is a nice place to go to lunch or diner with friend, family or with a loved one. The total price for the meal was $4.8 not including tip, but that is not bad considering that there was four of us there. That might be pricey for young teens, but the food is better then those in McDonald. So I hope you give the Ciao Trattorial a chance because the food will leave your taste buds asking for more.

Order your Pension Fund in Real Estate paper at affordable prices! If one is given a million pesos to invest over a period of thirty years without withdrawal, more often the most likely asset to be chosen is real estate. No stock or bond can approximate the investment return that land can realize over a long-term horizon. In the Philippine stock market the index is back to where it was in the late eighties whereas bonds average less than 1% per annum. Real estate values, however, grew by leaps and bounds especially in the early nineties such that annualized returns where known to hit over 15%. Its intrinsic value is especially appreciated in periods of inflation and economic slowdown. During adverse times land is known to preserve its value unlike other assets that tends to depreciate or diminish in price.

One particular financial institution that has monitored this favorable trend towards real estate venture is the pension fund. Considering the magnitude of multiple fold returns, it is therefore natural to expect pension funds to allocate a percentage of their portfolio in real estate investments. The difference among pension funds lies, however, in two modes of their entry in this asset classthe percentage of allocation and extent of participation in the real estate industry.

The percentage of allocation depends on the investment guidelines outlined by the trustees as discussed with the trustors. In most cases the trustor provides a reasonable level of discretion for the fund management to decide how much to allocate in the investment pie for property investments. If the industry is on the upside the tendency is to invest heavily on real estate and light once the boom is tapering. Typically, after allocating a routine percentage in stocks, bonds, money market instruments and other fixed income or equity placements, a residual value of total invested funds is set aside for adventurous but not so speculative investment one of which is real estate.

In a down property market the funds ability to divest and reallocate investments out of real estate will depend on the nature of participation or how deep was the fund involved in real estate. Whether it is in equities, project or financing, each type of investment will require a specified level of effort to exit. If the real estate equity is traded then the stick can be easily sold. If the investment is in land or project financing, the exit mechanism is more difficult. Even worse is if the fund entered into full property development and has engaged in acquisition, construction and marketing of real estate. We see everything from personality based causes to physical and genetically linked causes that develop into treatment models that theoretically support pharmaceutical drug dynasties.

I do declare

1. Schizophrenia is the prolonged biochemical response to ones distorted identity that no longer functions in his/her every day environment.

. What the psychiatric community states as the origins or triggers of schizophrenia are in reality the many different ways in which ones identity (emotional, mental, spiritual as well as physiological) becomes unstable and at risk of the onset of psychosis. Cheap research paper on shizophrenia . Schizophrenia is the aupt process of awakening into ones true and genuine self. We are not our occupation, marital status, address and blood type. These are characteristics about us and serve for our development, but are not the key factors in evaluating who we are. Just as the age of onset generally coincides with the beginning years of independency and departure from direct parental influence; it is at this time that we are expected to act out the person inside us that we needed to develop during adolescence. If we have not developed our true identity within ourselves, life is a continuous charade of events that leaves us feeling that life is empty and without purpose.

I have found that the greatest help in meeting any problem with decency and self-respect and whatever courage is demanded, is to know where you yourself stand. That is, to have in words what you believe and are acting from. -- William Faulkner

Recovery

Full recovery is total remission. The process of remission is individualized, step by step and day by day. Ultimately, a person who has gained remission is capable of providing his/her own stabilizing needs (i.e., food, clothing, shelter) while pursuing fulfilling goals. I think of the following analogy of the complete process of remission.

The caterpillar becomes unstable and falls into a state of psychosis. Within the cocoon, shelter and time allow the caterpillar to recover. Soon the reborn caterpillar must adapt to new challenges and a new environment. It must look inside itself to find the indentity that connects the will to thrive with the understanding of its new set of capabilities. Most people that experience schizophrenia get stuck inside their cocoon instead of allowing the natural process to evolve them into something stronger and more meaningful than what they were previously. It doesnt have to be this way.

Remission enables the person to live more fully (and independantly of the illness) than before the onset of schizophrenia. There are two major building blocks that lead to full remission Stabilization and Recovery

1. Stabilization

The majority of people experiencing the onset of schizophrenia are in such a debilitated psychotic state that a hospitalization is almost always necessary. Generally the person is aware that intervening help is needed and will voluntarily commit him/herself to a mental health facility. However, some people dont realize the seriousness of the psychosis and endanger the lives around them. A court order must beought against this person in order for there to be any help within the mental health system. While receiving treatment, these individuals must prove that they are no longer a threat to society should they want to return to the outside world. They must also agree to continue treatment as prescribed during the hospital stay.

One of the key foundations of treatment is the use of psychotropic medications which control and reduce (to a great extent) the hallucinations and grandiose thinking that are common symptoms of psychosis. I agree that medication is vital in order to stabilize, however, I whole heartedly disagree that medication is a lifetime ingredient to long-term health and happiness.

The medication took away my psychosis in weeks (January 187), and I am grateful. The residual damage of the organic psychosis took an additional years (January 187-April 18) to work through with the continued use of medication and reforming the habits of Activities of Daily Living (shave, shower, cooking, picking out clothes to wear and putting them on, riding the metro bus, talking on the phone,etc.). The medication provided me the time to to find the means to be healthy and rebuild my life.

Gradually, I saw a new and improved me surface to my conscious state. I nourished this new, lively, & health-oriented self with many positive life-style changes (April 18-April 10). During the last two years of taking medication (April 10-April 1), I was able to work out a plan with my psychiatrist that gradually reduced the Thorazine (medication) until I would no longer take it.

From that stark New Years day of 187 until April 1st, 1, I had depended on the Thorazine to knock me out so I could sleep. Ill never forget that first night of non-drug induced sleep. It was the best natural sleep in 5 and 1/4 years, and I actually felt completely refreshed. Finally I was off the medication that caused my skin to burn every summer, my mouth to go dry easily and my face to be flat without expression. However, I did not have the attitude that my life would be back on track once I was off medication. This kind of thinking sets people up for relapse. I did everything possible to get my life together while on the medication in order to have a life to continue living without the medication.

When I had told the psychiatrist about finally being off the meds ( weeks prior to seeing him), he was a bit disgruntled and replied that he had reconsidered our original proposal. He had decided that he wanted me to keep me on a maintainence dose and said that by being completely off the meds that there was a 0% chance that I would be back in the hospital with a relapse within the first year. I looked at it as a positive 10% chance that I would be fine by continuing to build the life I called Michael Allen. He said, Well, not exactly 10%. Whatever he meant by that, I dont know. What I do know is that there are many thousands of people who hopelessly think that medication will do their recovery for them, and this is not true. When they find a medication thats stabilizing, its time to think recovery!

. Recovery Error! Hyperlink reference not valid.

Its only natural to want to get back on track and begin to participate in life again. Recovery can only begin, however, when there is a desire to be healthy.

As I talk with families who have a loved one with schizophrenia or any other serious mental illness, the topic of how to motivate him/her away from a destitute life spent watching t.v. on the couch 4 x 7. There are two things that come to my mind regarding motivation. First, a person needs to know that there is a great possibility of developing a new life after the onset of mental illness. Without that knowledge, there is no hope to live nor reason to want to be healthy.

Repeatedly, I was told that I would be affected by schizophrenia and wouldnt be able to do everything I had once wanted to do prior to the onset. Wrong. The truth is that there is hope for those that believe. It may and probably will take time. Months may pass before you see signs of recovered health, but time spent in recovery is an investment that willing forth a future that will give you freedoms and options that one does not have while living under the umella of the mental health system.

The second thing that comes to mind regarding the couch potato life-style is contribution. During the second week of my hospitalization, I began to see how recovery depended upon my ability to use the skills that I had. Once I began to redevolp those Activities of Daily living I mentioned above, I was able to ponder the important things in life. Eventhough it was going to take years to build my strength up again, I decided that I would begin to help people while I was in the hospital. Of course I could do very little, but the point was I did all I could. I remember helping a person look for a missing puzzle piece inside a recreational room. That act of service helped take my attention away from thinking about my problems and gave me the opportunity to focus on something constructive.

So what is the difference between a healthy person evolving from schizophrenia, and a person stuck in the seemingly endless torment of it?

Answer Self Concept

Once a stabilized person has the desire to be healthy and takes responsibility for his/her actions, a genuine self will begin to sprout. By changing the way we see ourselves, our thoughts and actions will shape us into that person. Identity crisis is typical for someone experiencing schizophrenia. Without identity, we live our lives in the dark and live lives that are filled with experiences that seem unrelated. Our hope is in the future, but our minds and hearts are in the past. By focusing on changing our self-perception, the here and now of life becomes our constant focal point of awareness.

When weing our awareness into the present moment, we can begin to see how oureath plays an important role in keeping us at the level of health we desire. I would even go as far as saying that a person will completely recover his/her life and experience remission if proper diaphragmaticeathing is substituted for shalloweathlesseathing.

Diaphragmaticeathing is the opposite of shalloweathing.

Heres how

Begin byeathing in slowly, through your nose while mentally counting to five. When you are inhaling, picture the air going down into your stomach, not your lungs.

Put your hand on your stomach and you should feel it expanding. Now, slowly exhale through your mouth for a count of five. Picture the air emptying out of your stomach until its totally expelled. If you are doing it properly, your shoulders and chest will have very little, if no movement whatsoever.

Repeat ten times during practice and as long as needed when you are feeling overwhelmed by thoughts, emotions and attitudes.

What is one of the main benefits of a healthy identity?

Answer Healthy Self Esteem

We become more compassionate about the world we live in as we come closer to our genuine selves. Its in our higher nature to desire meaningful relationships that build strong communities. Our capacity to contribute will increase as we demonstrate to ourselves our capabilities. When we see the good that weing forth (and remain humble), we will understand how valuable our contributions are and feel good about ourselves. Its important to give oneself time to process this information through experiences. I didnt consciously say to myself If Iing joy into someones life, I will feel like a new man. Thats artificial and will probably not come from the heart if our main intention is to feel good about ourselves. My healthy self esteem was a result of being the loving human being that I think we all are if we humble ourselves and allow the powers of love work in our lives.

Self concept + self esteem = ?

Answer Self confidence

A funny thing happens as we feel great about behaving from the person we are inside, we develop the self confidence thats needed to continually improve our strengths and talents. In the spirit of gratitude, we can look forward to integrating our abilities to serve life to such a degree that we become much more than what we thought of ourselves during the process of schizophrenia. Those 5 and 1/4 years provided me the experiences I needed to be confident in my capabilities as I defined my self concept.

I became so confident in my abilities to serve people that I was able to progress gradually from volunteer jobs to part time jobs, and then on to full time jobs. I was also able to go back to school. Even though a couple of times I needed to withdraw from school when I was unable to utilize stress at that time, I did find a vocational trade school that provided the opportunity for me to learn offset printing in the graphic arts field. Ive been able to screen print and emoider t-shirts, operate printing equipment, work at a corporate headquarters for Borders.com, and currently operate a web development company I created called WEBLANZ.COM, LLC. Happily married for three years, my wife and I enjoy the blessings of parenthood with a and 1/ year old son and a 6 month old daughter. My message is a simple one. Total remission is possible. Expand the good from where youre at. There is no magic formula that works for everybody since identity is the main issue involving schizophrenia. Everybody sees a different healthy person inside him/herself that is truly unique.

. Remission Error! Hyperlink reference not valid.

When a person finds him/herself stabilized and functioning fairly well while having not been hospitalized or any similiar relapse for a period of a couple to three years, I question the validity of keeping such a person on medication. It can be argued that its the medication thats keeping the person functioning, but I dont believe it. If the person has established a reasonably strong support system which may include family, friends, and neighbors, its my belief that its time to work out a plan of gradual reduction of medication. If one is fortunate enough to find a doctor who is supportive in this decision, all the better. However, this probably wont happen and will need to be done with other responsible people who have a good idea what this persons strengths and weaknesses are.

Just as there is a time for a cast to come off the onceoken bone, there is also a time to stop using the medication as a crutch. This is the period of remission. This is the point in which one will experience recovery to its fullest. Remission is much more than just not being on medication. Remission is the reward for a completely successful recovery. Now, one of the first thoughts I told myself on that April 1 night as I decided to stop taking the medication was that I gave myself permission to go back on medication if I should ever need it. After all, it was my decision to start taking it and I knew it was the right thing to do in order to be stabilized. This idea of accepting the need to go back on it at any point of my life has kept me from stressing out about it, and is one of the many factors that has kept me strong without medication for 8 years and counting.

Stress!???!! First of all, stress is not bad; its good. It turns coal into diamonds. Secondly, when our attitude accepts the things in life that cause us to feel stressed, we need to understand that there are lessons within these stressors that will help us progress on lifes journey. And lastly, its a crime to think of how many people increase their dosage of medication just because they feel stressed. I was guilty of this a few times and I know how tempting it can be. Feeling stressed does not mean that a person is going to be unstable. Its appropriate to get upset when things are upsetting. Medication will not take away stress; it can only mask it and deceive us as stress festers and develops into even more complications on any physical, mental, emotional or spiritual level. I believe strongly that all people who experience schizophrenia could achieve full remission. The major stumbling blocks are

- No belief or hope in ones recovery

- A nonsupportive environment

- A society that would rather look the other way (until it happens to them)

- The stigma associated with mental illness discourages people from coming forward and share their success stories and insight.

Order your Truth or Lies paper at affordable prices! Is college right for me and you? Thats the question that Caroline Bird is asking in her article in the Signature Magazine. The article suggest that all students, whenever they get out of high school, should not always go straight to college, because college is not for everybody. I will, without a shadow of a doubt, prove that college does not fail us as young people and that although college is not for everybody, they are for most people now of days.

The main argument against college is that the kids who go to college do not belong there. "Almost 50 percent of high school graduates are going to college," says Caroline. The more and more that high school graduates go to college, the more and more that certain people should not be there. More and more people are going to college just to party and have fun, not to go and study. This is what Caroline is trying to say college is not for everybody. She is right, college isnt for everybody. I agree with that. Lots of people come to college without even wanting to study, all they want to do is have fun away from home. Since I have been here, I have seen just that. But the thing that she does not realize is that most people who dont belong in college drop out or get kicked out the first semester they are there so it really does not matter. She gives many great arguments about how college does fail us as students and that people should think twice about coming to college.

When she say," college people do not just go to school so that they can make money, they want a job that means something to society." (65) That is true for about 10 percent of all students in college. Most people want to go into a field that they can make plenty of money in because when it really comes down to it, money makes the whole world go around. Seriously, if you love your job but you dont get paid hardly anything for it, although you might be happy in your job, it will give you other problems dealing with money because you do not have enough money to pay all your bills. The key is going into a field that you will enjoy working at and that you will be stable with the money part.

She states on page 66 that in the field of psychology, that over 58,000 people will get degrees in that field but only about 4,00 new jobs will be open for those people. That is true, but she fails to state the jobs of an athletic trainer which is the most demanding job out there right now. Basically the numbers are reversed from the other statement I just made. More people are wanting an athletic trainer than people are getting degrees for. In every statement she gives on page 66, its always the jobs that so many people are going for and not enough jobs for all these people. Another plus for college graduates is that most people look at us with a higher amount of respect if we actually go and finish college than if somebody only finishes high school. People know how hard it is to go through the many years it takes to finish college and the huge amount of stress that goes along with it. On page 68 she states that we know how to budget our time better, meet deadlines, set priorities, cope with authority, follow directions, and stick with a task without having direct supervision right on top of them all the time. That is real good for an employer because they believe they can count on us more often than not.

Another point she makes on page 6 is that college is really expensive. Most colleges and universities are anywhere from 10,000 a year up to 0,000 a year. I cant find any fault in that statement of hers because in my opinion, college is way to expensive. The education that we get might not be worth 0,000 dollars a year for four years. Thats over 10,000 dollars a year. What average can really afford that on top of everything else they have to pay for? Do not forget about the poorer people out there, they can barely afford their house and car payments and you want them to pay 0,000 a year for school? You cant really ask them to do that.

Caroline Bird says on page 70 that, " the biggest defense of college is that while it may not teach you anything vocationally, it somehow makes you a better person, able to do anything better, and those that make it through the precess are initiated into the fellowship of educated men and women." I agree with that statement to some extent. I have not finished college yet, so I really dont know the final outcome for me yet. I do know what people have told me and what I have read through other things, and it always to some point come out the same. No matter what you think about college, in the end when you wrap it all up, college is a real good experience for you when you grow up a lot and have to deal with a lot of things on your own.

Another point that Caroline makes against college is that no longer is the availability of the information limited now for the public, but now its the other way around. The public can now choose many different forms to take and learn about. In just one area now, there are about 0-0 different courses and times to where just about anybody can fit it in there schedule. She says on page 71 that you can find the information anywhere like in paperback, public liaries, museums, public lectures, adult-education classes, in aidge form, or adapted form in a magazine, film and television. So there is no excuse today to not get educated.

I think to wrap it up that Caroline Bird is a very thoughtful person and made some very good points to why college does not work for everybody. My thesis was to prove without a shadow of a dought that college was a very helpful tool for us to use. I proved my thesis but not totally. When it all comes down to it, it is up to the person themselves, if they are ready for college or not because if they are not they will fail, plain and simple.
