People often ask, "Are you green with envy or jealousy?" or they use the phrase, "Green-eyed monster" to describe someone that is jealous. In Othello, by William Shakespeare, Act III, Scene ,shows Iago telling Othello lies about Desdemona that made him jealous. But Cassio, Desdemona, and Emilia had no idea why Othello was so jealous. They just knew he had changed.

In Act III, Scene , Iago started to get more dishonest than he was in the beginning. Iago began to tell Othello lies about Cassio and Desdemona having a relationship. Cassio had no idea what was going; he just wanted his job back. Iago told him to go to Desdemona and ask her to persuade Othello to give him his job back, but this was all for Iagos evil plan to work.

Desdemona and Emilia knew that Othello was angry, but they blamed it on work being that neither of them did anything to make him angry, so they thought. Emilia had a feeling that he was jealous, but in Desdemonas eyes, there was no way her level-headed husband could be linked to

jealousy. But Emilia, being more modern, believes that someone might have put something in Othellos head that caused him to become jealous because according to her all men are capable of jealousy. Emilia says, "Men are like stomachs and we are the food." On the other hand, Desemona believes Othello doesnt have jealousy in him. Emilia says, "I will be hangd if some eternal villain, some busy and insinuating rouge, some cogging, cozening slave, to get some office…" believing that someone is putting ideas in Othellos mind to get a place in his military. Ironically, the "villain" is her husband, Iago.Othello believes everything that Iago says to him and he swears to Iago that he refuses to share Desdemona. Othello then takes matters into his own hands and tells Iago to take care of the man that Desdemona was cheating with while he takes care of her. Desdemona loves Othello just as much as Othello loves her, but Othello believes "honest Iago" over his wifes protests of innocence and kills her.

What Othello should have done was go to Cassio being that they were good friends before, and if he really loved Desdemona as much as he said he did, he should have spoken

to her also. Believing Iago was the wrong thing. Believing leads him to become overwhelmed with jealousy, which lead to the terrible tragedy of the killing of Desdemona and himself once he realized that he was tricked by his once good friend, all because of jealousy.
