Dr Joseph Goebbels was in charge of propaganda


Goebbels aims of propaganda were to make others believe Hitler was the saviour of Germany. Their aims was to make German people accept Hitler and to approve of Nazism.


The propaganda that was used by the nazis were posters, televisions, cinema, public events such as book burning, rallies, newspapers, radio and the 1 Olympics.The Nuremberg rallies took place in the summer of every year. They consisted of marches, flying displays, bands, parades and speeches made by Hitler.


The Nazis controlled the media in many ways. No books could be published without Goebbels permission. This was to ensure that no negative messages about the Nazis were being read. He organised a book burning which was a great publicity stunt to attract people to come and burn books, which contained ideas that the Nazis would classify as inappropriate.


Goebbels also controlled the newspapers. He knew that Nazism would create a lot of controversy so he kept a close eye on it to be certain that no anti-nazi ideas were being printed. But as there were Jewish editors and journalists they became unemployed.

Goebbels wanted every household to have a radio because they repeated speeches by Hitler as if to force them to accept Hitler


Goebbels banned jazz music because it was associated with black people and they were considered to be inferior. The Olympics was to show that the Aryan race were superior. They made the stadium look modernised so that they could show that Germany was modern, civilised and a successful country.


The visitors were amazed at their faiclities of the stadium. Also at the beginning they the Germans were leading perhaps making people think that the Aryan race was superior. However the winners were mostly black people and many people did not like the blatant propaganda so people did not like it.


Women


The Nazis considered women as only mothers and wives. A newspaper headline once read No true German woman wears trousers. This showed that they preferred men to be dominating.


Women were encouraged to have children by getting a gold cross for having 8 children and gained a privileged seat in Nazi meetings. Propaganda was also used to promote motherhood


The birth rate did increase 15 per 1000 and then increased to 0 per 1000 in 1. The plans to tempt women into having children had been successful as the birth rate increased

This gave employment for over a million men. However this did need money for uniform, weapons etc. So coal mines and factories gave more opportunities for workers. And then more people were needed as engineers, designers and fitters for constructing for the air force.


Law and Order


The police force in Nazi Germany had changed for the benefit of the Nazis. The high status jobs in the police force were given to high ranking Nazis. This then enabled them to report of what was happening to Himmler who was head of Germanys police. This meant that they had more power and were able to do things that normal civilians couldnt. They were also under strict instructions to ignore any crimes that were committed by Nazi agents.


The law courts in Nazi Germany were controlled by the Nazis, as well as the judges and the magistrates. This allowed Nazi agents to be excused for any crimes committed and were unfair to any opponents of Nazism.


Reinhard Heydrich was in charge of the Gestapo. The Gestapos main aim was to reduce opponents of Nazism and to get rid of anyone who didnt like or approve of Hitler. They had power to send anyone to concentration camps on suspicion without reason.


Himmler who was head of Germanys police was also in charge of the SS. The SS men who were very loyal to Hitler had a main responsibility of destroying opposition to the Nazis. They also had units who were in charge of the concentration camps and it was their duty to get rid of the Jews.


The very first concentration camps were set up in Poland December 8th 1 as soon as Hitler came to power. They had used old factories or warehouses in isolated rural areas.

Otto and Edith Frank knew that as long as the Nazis were in power, life for Jews in Germany would become more and more dangerous. They feared that their normal life could not continue. They decided to move to the Netherlands where Otto had an offer to start a new company. Otto went to Amsterdam in 1 to find a new home for his family and start up the business. Anne, Margo and Edith went to live temporarily with Ediths mother in Aachen, near the German border with Holland. In the autumn of 1, the family was reunited in their new home in Amsterdam. Anne was four years old. In Amsterdam, Anne and her sister had a busy and happy life, quickly learning Dutch, attending the local Montessori school, and making many new friends. They wereight girls and were encouraged by their parents to study and learn whatever subjects interested them. Otto Frank prospered in his new business, which made pectin, a fruit extract used in making jams and jellies. He watched the developments in Germany with growing anxiety and began to take further steps to protect his family.


In May 140 the Nazis invaded Holland and soon began to place limits on the economic and social freedom the citizens had enjoyed. Jews had to register with the authorities so the Germans knew the names and addresses of every Jew in Holland. Jewish children were forced to attend only Jewish schools. Everybody was issued identity cards. Those issued to the Jews were stamped with a J and they were often stopped by the police and made to show the I.D. card. Jews were required to hand over their bicycles and barred from riding trolleys or using cars. Jews were set apart from other citizens and association between Jews and Gentiles was forbidden.


Aware that his company was in danger of being taken from him by the Nazis, Otto Frank transferred ownership to Gentile co-workers and began to make plans to go into hiding. He prepared a set of secret rooms behind his office and warehouse at 6 Prinsengracht. He furnished it simply and began to stock it with food and supplies for the day when he and his family might be forced to use it.


In 14 Jews in Holland were required to wear yellow stars made of cloth attached to their outer clothing. This meant that they could be instantly recognized as Jews. In June of the same year the Nazi leaders announced that all Jews were to be transported to labor camps in Germany. Otto knew that this was the time for him to disappear with his family. Wearing many layers of clothing, instead of carrying suitcases or bundles that would attract attention in the street, the Frank family left their home and set up house in the secret rooms he had prepared. The rooms where they hid became known as the secret annex or the house behind.


In June, on her thirteenth birthday, Anne received a diary that she took with her into hiding. The diary became more and more important to her as time passed because she had no contact with the outside world, no friends except her family and three family acquaintances who went into hiding with them, Hermann, Auguste and Peter van Pels. Anne wrote inside the front cover of her diary I hope I will be able to confide everything to you, as I have never been able to confide in anyone, and I hope that you will be a great source of comfort and support. She gave her diary the name Kitty. It became her closest friend and confidant during her time in hiding. In it, she wrote about her restricted activities, tensions with her mother and sister, worries about the safety of her Jewish friends outside, her fear of discovery, her longing for independence and freedom, and her dreams for the future. She also shared with Kitty reports of Nazi persecution and confided the growing awareness of herself as a sexual, moral, political and philosophical being. She felt a strong conviction that she wanted to become a writer.


After hearing aoadcast from London in which the education minister of the Dutch government in exile urged his fellow citizens to keep accounts of what they were experiencing under German occupation, Anne decided to revise her diary for publication after the war. She rewrote and polished the style of her diary, fictionalizing names and weaving it all together in a more readable form. While in hiding she also wrote several short stories.

If you arent working all the time, you can do a short course, study part time or do a fallback job such as bar work. As the responsibilities increase and a constant cash flow is required, you will need to find either ongoing contracting or a permanent role.


• Discrimination. The older you are, the less likely you are to be seen as an innovator. Whether the young are innovative or not, the perception is all-important.

Organisations should offer job security, for the sense of security would motivate workers to be loyal to the company. Without job security, contract works would be more attractive than permanent employment.

Kalleberg, Knoke and Marsden (001) suggest that the use of contingent workers is not limited to clerical employees, but emaces such high-skill occupations as engineering, computer programming, and drafting.
