Order your Beowulf paper at affordable prices! The Anglo-Saxon period dates to the year 44 in English literature. One famous piece of literature that still exist from the period if the epic poem Beowulf. This piece of literature uses traditional elements associated with heroic literature all over the world. The poem has an anonymous author; however it still gives us facts and clues of life dated back to the Anglo-Saxon period. The oral told poem in which tells a story of the great Geat, Beowulf, and his adventure across the sea to rescue King Hrothgar from the monster Grendel. Beowulf and Grendel are two characters, which play two vital roles in this epic poem Beowulf.

Beowulf was son of Edgetho and the nephew of the King of Geats. Beowulf plays a strong role in which hes a very self-centered Geat, who fears nothing. After hearing of King Hrothgars captivity. Beowulf, the strongest of the Geats, greater/ and stronger than anyone anywhere in this world. (p. L110) Took it upon himself to, "Sail across the sea to Hrothgar." (p. L118) After the trip across sea, he approaches King Harthgar and announces, he "the wisest, most knowing/ and best of them, that me duty was to go to the Danes." (p. 5 L 150-) To his people Beowulf was a hero. He had rose from war, / dripping with his enemies blood, and drove/ five great giants into chains.

(p. 5 L 5-54) Being asave as Beowulf was he said to the King, " Now Grendel and I are called/ together, and Ive come." (p. 5 L 15-160) Just this short line in the poem

expresses, he wants to be granted the challenge. He requests from the King to purge all evil from the mead-hall. The heroic Beowulf had heard the monster Grendel needs no weapons and fears nothing; and he announces, "Nor will I." (p. 5 L 16) The epic poem gives great picture motives. From line to line you can visualize how Beowulf is arrogant, self centered, and fearless from any fight. The character Grendel, plays a giant role of the man-eating monster, who lives at the bottom of a swamp like lake. His part in the story would be some what we call today the bad villain. Grendel was full of hatred and very fierce. One night the sneaky monster, snatched up thirty men and smashed them. (p. L 7) This use of kenning in the story shows that Grendel was a very cold-hearted cannibal. Before the night of the battle with Beowulf, Grendel came out from his swampy marsh hoping to kill. "His eyes gleamed in the darkness, burned with a gruesome/ light. (p. L 407-40) The author is expressing the fire and hatred of such beast. During the fight Grendel, " That shepherd of evil, guardian of crime, / knew at once that nowhere on Earth/ Had he met a man whose hands were harder; / His mind flooded with fear." (p. L4-45) just as plots in stories today good beats evil. The monster Grendel who was so fierce and uneakable, fled back to his den where he lays to die. Beowulf had defeated the giant Grendel as he proposed, and engaged in a fierce fight with the great monster of evil.

Throughout the epic poem Beowulf there are flaws in both characters. Beowulf, which is very self-centered but greatly, loved by his fellow Geats, and Grendel a fierce man-eating monster from the bottom of the sea. Both are truly a like but also very different in many ways. Both characters were undefeated but Beowulf, always sworn by

his sword. This poem shows great plot and greatly defends both good and evil. The poem uses kenning to describe its characters. Now we know two horrific characters dated back to the Anglo-Saxon period.

Order your to be or not to be paper at affordable prices! Earlier this year, the Merrill Lynch Forum spoke with Dr. Francis Fukuyama about globalization. The conversation focused on how culture shapes, and is shaped by, the increasing worldwide economic integration. In his comments, Fukuyama challenges the view that globalization is leading to cultural homogeneity, arguing that societies largely maintain their individual characteristic despite economic pressures. In fact, Fukuyama asserts that these cultural values in many respects define how business is conducted within a nation.

This does not mean that society is not influenced or altered by the process of globalization -- Fukuyama does believe there is a convergence of political and economic ideologies. Rather, he suggests that there are deeper elements of culture not easily abandoned.

Q) To what extent has globalization been realized?

I think that in many respects, globalization is still superficial. Although there is a great deal of talk about it currently, the underlying truth is that the global economy is still limited. It seems to me that the real layer of globalization is restricted to the capital markets. In most other areas, institutions remain intensely local. Professional writers help on to be or not to be essays Trade, for example, is still predominantly regional. Relatively little trade flows beyond local regions Asians trade mostly with Asians and Latin Americans trade mostly with Latin Americans. Even in more developed regions this practice holds true. Intra-European trade accounts for roughly 60% of all European trade.

This regional limitation is true elsewhere. Most companies are predominantly national, and certainly governments remain very national. Consumer markets are not only national, but they are segmenting even further within regions as consumer education improves and consumers are able to demand products that precisely meet their needs.

Q) Are there aspects of globalization that lead to greater homogenization?

I think that homogenization and an affirmation of distinctive cultural identities will occur simultaneously. In terms of large economic and political institutions, cultures are becoming more homogeneous. There arent as many alternatives and regime types. It isnt possible to have a kind of Peronista economic nationalism, or a certain kind of socialism. It turns out that, given the nature of the global economy, there are only so many ways that a political or economic system can be organized to make it viable and competitive. To be an advanced society, a country has to be a democracy, and it has to be connected to the global marketplace. In that respect, there is a greater homogenization of institutions and ideologies. On a cultural level, its not clear that homogenization is proceeding nearly as rapidly. To a certain extent, there is a real resistance to cultural homogenization.

Q) Do you believe that homogenization will ever occur on a deeper level?

It could be that culture will ultimately become homogenized, just like political institutions, but I believe that its going to be a much slower process. Many people think that because we have advanced communications technology, and are able to project global television culture worldwide, this will lead to homogenization on a deeper cultural level. I think that, in a way, its done just the opposite.

For example, there is probably less mutual liking, more distrust and greater emphasis on the difference between the cultures of the United States and Asia today than there was 40 years ago. In the 150s and 60s, Asia looked up to the United States as a model of modernization. Now, Asians look at American urban decay and the decline of the family and they feel that America is not a very attractive model. Communications technology has allowed both Asians and Americans to see each other more clearly, and it turns out they have very different value systems.

Q) Can global corporations have a homogenizing effect on culture?

I think that there is a global consumer culture that is spread by companies like McDonalds and Coca-Cola. However, if you look beneath the surface and ask people in different countries where their loyalties lie, how they regard their families, and how they regard authority, there will be enormous differences. When people examine a culture, they pay too much attention to aspects like the kinds of consumer goods that people buy. Thats the most superficial aspect of culture. A culture really consists of deeper moral norms that affect how people link together.

In my second book, Trust The Social Virtues and the Creation of Prosperity, one of the central theses argues that these deeper qualities, the so-called moral norms, define economic activity. For instance, Chinese culture is family-centric limiting business transactions to extended family. This fact has many consequences. It means that Chinese businesses tend not to be very large, probably because they are unwilling toing in managers from outside the family. It means that its very difficult to establishand names because large marketing organizations are not used. It also means it is very difficult to build lasting institutions that endure for more than two or three generations. In the China example it is culture that drives economics.

Q) What constitutes these deeper cultural Identities?

Obviously language, religion, and race are all important components of a local identity. My particular interest is in what I call networks of trust. These networks vary in different parts of the world. I think that to really understand how to operate in any region of the world, you really need to understand the networks of trust in that area. Once a trust relationship is established, a business relationship can follow.

For example, in many Latin American countries, many of the largest companies are almost always controlled by a group of families. This is also true in other countries, such as China and Turkey. Obviously, business opportunities in such countries very much depend on an understanding of the way that these social networks are wired together. The only people with a full understanding of how these networks work are the locals themselves. Thats why outsiders sometimes find it difficult to conduct business in countries where the expected degree of transparency and ability to form business relations without preexisting social relationships are lacking.

Order your tony paper at affordable prices! Solid

-Generally, your grasp of the importance and flexibility of language (how it comes to us, what qualifies as reading and writing, etc.). The gut feeling I got from this paper was a good one I felt safe in the authors hands because he seemed aware of the very realness of reading and writing (its not just something that happens in a classroom).

-Your discussion of rap music (p.-). This was particularly solid in relation to the rest of your paper because you 1) narrated the activity and then ) fully thought out its significance to you and other audiences.

-Several of your sentences are pure poetry. "We read our mothers smiles when she rocked us to sleep." "…and your mother said stop that you knew she meant business." "The public also reads people by their appearance…"

Order essays on tony and other topics -The way you open up your paper in the concluding paragraph to a new idea (taking aoad definition of reading and writing into the schools). You have articulated a very open theory of reading and writing in your paper, and its like you say "Heres what we could do with it."

Could be solid

-In your first two paragraphs, you flesh out a theory of reading and writing. This is an excellent place for doing that sort of thing because it provides a context for the reader. Its like saying, "Reader, I want to tell you where Im coming from so that you understand how to interpret the events Im going to tell you about." However, for a paper of this length, the introduction (what I consider your first two paragraphs) is probably too long. I came to this paper with expectations that it was going to be about you and got weighed down in the opening abstract discussion of reading and writing (particularly in the second paragraph). It could be condensed in order to get the reader more quickly to YOU. This is, after all, an autobiography.

-The transition from the introduction to the rest of your paper. I think that with whatever you end up making your introduction…toward the end of it, you should relate your theory of reading and writing specifically back to you. The road map thing. As it is now, your introduction does prepare me in a sense for the rest of the paper because in your introduction you explode the meaning of reading to include everything under the sun. But I need a sense of the specific things youll discuss and why you chose them over other possibilities.

Not so solid

-The discussion of Michael Jackson could be erased. You made your point about musics effect on you very persuasively with rap music. The Michael Jackson portion read more like a "shout out" to a favorite musician than an actual discussion of his significance. If he stays in there, he needs to be more fully developed. What is it specifically about his music? Are there specific songs/lyrics of his that are meaningful to you? Did his music ever have a very dramatic effect on you at a specific time?

-The discussion of movies, the publics judgment of appearance, and the news need to be rooted in more specifics. I have a general idea, but like my sophomore English teacher from high school used to say, "Youre only as good as you are specific." A passionate writer will help the reader by finding examples that stick. Not just talking about the news in a general sort of way, but discussing a very specific article or headline that affected him. Not just talking about movies in a general way, but discussing a very specific one. Its that balance between general commentary and very specific examples that makes an excellent paper excellent.

Point at which I lost myself

-The first few lines…"you dont only read books, but you read everyone and everything around you." These lines excited me because I felt the paper wasnt going to give me a ho-hum traditional view of reading and writing. "We read our mothers smiles when she rocked us to sleep." Thats when I REALLY gave myself up to your paper. The poetry of that line was incredible, especially followed by the short explanation of significance "That showed us love."

Other points to consider

-Think about what we discussed in class regarding introductions and conclusions. Does your conclusion "talk" to your introduction? Does it resonate? Echo?

Order your character study of andy in the shawshank redemption paper at affordable prices! A Discuss the methods which the director has used to establish and develop a major character in "The Shawshank Redemption"

One of the central characters to the plot in "The Shawshank Redemption" directed by Frank Darabant, is Andy, wrongfully imprisoned for the murder of his wife. Throughout the film, Andys character is revealed in stages. We move beyond the opening scenes, which suggest that he is a cold and remorseless man, to the implied notion of Andy cast as a Christian allegory, the Christ crucified to save others from their sins, or redemption. The audience learns of his true nature through the observations of the other characters, the subtle Christian symbols used throughout the film, and the interactions he has with his fellow prisoners.

The audiences perception of Andys character changes dramatically throughout the film. The first scene casts him as a villain who took his revenge on his unfaithful wife in autal and shocking way. The scene does not actually show whether he is innocent or guilty of the crime, but the trial scene running simultaneously with the actual crime suggests that he is guilty. The characters in this scene greatly affect the impression that the audience receives. Throughout the scene Andy remains impassive, not defending himself against the charges. The judge further reinforces the supposed message that Andy is guilty, by saying that Andy struck him as "a particularly cold and remorseless man". However, the misconception is soon corrected as the film progresses, showing through the eyes of the other prisoners a man with determination, kindness, fine taste, intelligence, patience and high morals. As the story develops Andy performs several memorable, selfless acts which help the other prisoners to have some quality of life. He risks his own safety toing them music, deliberately disobeying the commands of the warden just for a few moments of freedom, which result in a week of solitary confinement. One of the other prisoners remarked that it was "the most beautiful thing I ever heard". The respect shown by his peers and the sincerity of his actions further strengthens the argument that Andy is innocent and changes the way the audience perceives this seemingly cold character.

Throughout the movie, the audience is intrigued with the question of Andys innocence, making his fate an important part of the film. The director has used this to establish Andys character as a symbol of the central theme, the battle of justice and good over evil. Andy soon becomes the peoples champion, and the film becomes focused on Andys journey through Shawshank and the changes he initiates in the people he meets. Andy is never actually cleared of the murder, although in casting him in the role of hero, the director leads the audience to the conclusion that he is innocent. There are many changes that occur to the character of Andy that takes him from villain to hero as the film develops. His character has a great impact on the audience and manages to keep us interested for the duration of the film, by adding an air of mystery and by constantly changing and going against the expected pattern. Andys character is introduced early in the film, creating a strong impression and captivating the audiences attention until the final scenes of the movie.
