In 1504, More becomes a member of Parliament. In 1505, More considers become a priest, but instead, he marries Jane Colt, saying he would rather become a good husband than a bad priest. In 150, More elected bencher at Lincolns Inn. In 1510, he was appointed under-sheriff of London. In 1511, Jane dies, leaving him with four children. He then marries Alice Middleton, a widow, a month later. In 1515, he was sent on a diplomatic mission to Antwerp, and he begins to write Utopia. In 1518, he was made master of requests and a member of the privy council of Henry VIII. In 15, he is elected speaker of Parliament. In 15, More was made Lord Chancellor. In 15, he resigns chancellorship finding he cannot support Henrys attempts to divorce Queen Catherine and marry Anne Boleyn. In 15, he was forbidden to publish. In 154, on April 17, he was sent to the Tower Of London for refusing to take the oath of the Act of Succession. While in the Tower, More writes Dialogues of Comfort Against Tribulation and De Tristitia Christi. On July 1, 155 More was tried and convicted for treason on the terms of his refusal to affirm the kings supremacy. On July 6, 155, More was beheaded. On December , 1886, More was beatified and canonzied on May 1, 15 by Pope Pius XI.
