The primary issue my case deals with is the initial zoning upon entering a store. When you are walking into a store you usually dont notice the first couple of things you see. This is because we have trained ourselves to walk at a faster pace in order to get from the parking lot to the actual store, so that when you enter the store, those first couple of steps are geared towards slowing down. Not shopping around. Whatever is in that particular zone is pretty much lost to the consumers. Usually when entering a store consumers are faced with one of the following, a display, a sign, or even a sales clerk-asking if they can help you. Chances are the consumer will be moving too fast to absorb the key things that marketers work so hard at to try and catch their attention with. Another issue is placing shopping baskets at the front of the store. Since the baskets are only offered at the front of the store consumers often miss them, which means they only buy what they can hold in their arms. The third issue in my article is the architectural design of the store. How the store is designed reflects upon your sales. For instance, if a customer feels uncomfortable with their surroundings, they are less likely to purchase goods from that particular store.

Rule The first rule addressed is zoning, which many stores came up with to grab attention of those entering the store, by putting sale items such as huge bins of marked down items in the front. Retailers should make it a point to help the consumer feel comfortable, a simple "Hello" might be better then "Can I help you?" No one likes to admit that they cannot do something on their own, the second they walk in a store. As a shopper I feel that the shopping experience should be an easy one. This all reflects how it is set up. People do not like to work hard to find items to purchase. As for myself, I am more likely to buy something that is displayed in a way that I dont have to dig in order to find what I want. The decision to purchase something is hard enough; we dont need the shopping to be hard as well.

When we agreed to write this column on anti-smoking bylaws, I worried it would be hard to find a new way to talk about how unhealthy second-hand smoke is.

I mean, we all know it, dont we?

Boring.

But when I dug out the statistics ... wow. Theyre the kind of thing that can leave you moreeathless than a two-pack-a-day smoker whos just climbed four flights of stairs.

For example On average, a person working in a bar smokes about eight cigarettes a night. Or, I should say, they inhale the equivalent via second-hand smoke.

Researchers in Ontario recently found that second-hand smoke triples the risk for cancer-related illnesses. And heres another statistic for you Doctors estimate that up to 00 people die each year from second-hand smoke in Manitoba.

Imagine anything else so poisonous it kills 00 people a year in this province floating around workplaces. The health and safety department would swoop in and close the place down in less time that it takes the Marlboro Man to cough up a mouthful of phlegm.

No one should have to work with asbestos or PCBs and no one should have to work in an environment filled with second-hand smoke. Thats kind of like lighting a full garbage can on fire, leaning over it andeathing deeply to enjoy a delicious lung-full of the smoke.

Interrogated by the police, they were told, "One of you is going to hang for this." Looking atadley, the officer said, "and since you're the black one, you're elected." In a classic case of rush to judgment,adley was tried, convicted, and sentenced to death. The circumstantial evidence against him was thin and the racism was heavy. In 1986 Centurion Ministries, a volunteer group devoted to freeing wrongly-acused prisoners, came toadley's aid. Evidence had meanwhile emerged that another man had commited the murder for whichadley was awaiting execution.adley was not released until 1990, a full year later.

Right now, over 3,500 inmates sit in wait on Death Row nationwide. The overwhelming majority are poor, and a disproportionate number are African American or of some other ethnic minority. In addition, most had legal representation that ranged from inadequate to grossly incompetent. However, what may be the most disturbing of all is that a significant number of them may be quite innocent. It is proven fact that, since the Supreme Court reinstated capital punishment in 1976, at least one of every eight people sentenced to die by the death penalty in America is later proven innocent.

Morality itself should be virtue enough to at least call for the moratorium of the death penalty in the United States, the land of freedom and justice. Capital punishment blatantly violates the very concept of justice and is unacceptable as a form of punishment. The Marquis de Lafayette, a good friend of the United States during the Revolutionary War, once said, "I shall ask for the abolition of the punishment of death until I have the infallibility of human judgment demonstrated to me."

Some radical death penalty opposers even go so far as to claim that those who support such punishment with the excuse of "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth" are like immature children who continue to insist on the principle of childish payback and petty revenge. They s
