Before, many people frequented restaurants, bars, and the like; nowadays, however, people would rather eat inside their homes since it costs less.

My mom often tells me that I should not buy stuff that are not important, stuff that I can live without such as another piece of bag or another pair of shoe. I would always have a tantrum whenever she wouldnt let me buy stuff that I wanted so much, especially if Im the only one in class who doesnt have it. I always envy the kids who get everything they want, twenty Barbie dolls, shoes in every possible shade, bags of every size and shape.

However, I have now seen the light! I realized that earning money is not so easy. You have to work hand and foot for it. Moreover, I can now see my moms view towards my buying of unnecessary stuff. I would never be satisfied with just one bag; fashion would sooner or later dictate that another kind is "in" and thus I would want a newer one. For example, in the case of shoes, I am presently craving one of those cute jeweled slippers, but a few years from now, maybe I would want a pair of silver snakeskin boots!

The line between our wants and needs is very thin. I often find myself making excuses as to why I buy a certain thing. Just last week, I kept telling myself that the new bag I bought was to be used at school. But lo and behold, it was so small that my pencil box was the only thing that could fit!

Order your The Te of Piglet paper at affordable prices! The Te of Piglet is a book that explains the teachings of Taoism through the characters in Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner. Taoism is a Chinese philosophy. Te is Chinese for Virtue. Piglet has quite a bit to do with both Te and Taoism.

In this book, the reader is concerned with the transformation of virtue into virtue that steps out. Piglet is the animal best suited to demonstrate the process-because it is Piglet, and only Piglet, who undergoes just such a transformation in the Pooh stories. Piglet may appear the least of the Pooh characters. Yet he is the only one to change, to grow, and to become more than what he was in the first place. In the end, he does this not by denying his smallness, but by applying it, for the good of others. He accomplishes what he does without developing a large ego; inside, he remains a very small animal-but a different kind of very small animal than he was before. This nature of Piglet is the basis of Te.

Hoff uses Eeyore to criticize various types of people in his book, The Te of Piglet. This book is merely a diatribe against heavy industry, Confucianism, business, government, pesticides, doctors, the military, feminists, conservatives, realists, Western culture, mainstream Americans, and all the other so-called Eeyores of the world. Being rather ironic, Hoff criticizes critics in this book.

The original Pooh stories are included, though crudely interrupted in very large chunks. Quotations from Taoist philosophers are present in abundance. Explanatory sections about the history of Taoism and Confucianism, and smatterings of Taoist principles are also incorporated into the book.

Order your The Social Wall That Cannot Beoken paper at affordable prices! Education is one of the most important aspects of every society and country. A person can be changed no matter what kind of education they have because education affects ones personality and moral character. Among common ideas, education establishes a ones job choice, life quality and thoughts. Donna Gaines, essay "Dirtbags, Burnouts, Metalheads, and Thrashers" argues that education protects the social class in each person. In other words, education tends to determine the social class of each person.

On page 45, Gaines talks about the vocational school. As we know, there are two different kinds of high schools that every youngster can attend regular high schools and vocational schools (votec). Most people think that vocational schools exist for the student who has lower academic grades or makes trouble in a school. In other words, the vocational school is the negative alternative for troublemakers. Donna Gaines presents several examples of students who attended or have graduated from a vocational school such as Eddie, Cliff and Ann. (48)

According to her text, those students had individual dreams and wanted to achieve a successful life (48). Their dreams are different according to a gender and interests. For instance, Cliff wants to be a bass player , Eddie wants to be a terrific writer and Ann wants to have a family. However, they couldnt because of a social wall that disrupted the movement from lower class to upper class. There are many reasons why vocational school students cannot improve the quality of their life. For instance, many high-paying jobs require a college degree or doctoral degree. In this case, a college degree can be a "wall" for lower class students. Generally, college provides high quality knowledge that many high paying companies require. But votec does not do that. Therefore, the majority of students who graduate from a votec school might obtain a "shit job" (Gaines 50). As she said, a grocery stocker or construction worker does their jobs despite the fact that they are boring and hopeless. In other words, they have few life choices with these kinds of job. So, lower class people have fewer opportunities to obtain a high paying job that they want. Recently, capacity of money has been a major factor to make a wall dividing social classes.

If they cannot get a well paying job, how can they improve their lifestyle oreak the wall to join upper class? There are several cases for each gender as I said. For instance, many lower and middle class boys want to be famous entertainers or sports superstars like Jon Bon Jovi or Mike Tyson (Gaines 48). Girls also hope to be entertaining stars. In this case, girls rely upon their spectacular beauty and talents. But, in most cases, girls dream of marring a millionaire who has great looks and generous manners. However, it is hard to move from upper class to lower class. Of course, there are a few evidence of this movement from lower class to upper class. For instance, Rams quarterback Kurt Warner can be a good example for my assumption. Before starting the NFL season, he was a grocery stocker. But finally, he became 4th Super Bowl MVP. Any students who come from votec might write a huge success story if they have specific sports skill or terrific beauty. However, this theory might not be realistic for normal students who graduates from a votec school or lives in lower social class.

According to Gaines argument, education tends to be a major factor that determines ones life; parents have an affect on their children in terms of thought, action or individual characteristic. We have seen many cases that a son succeeds in his fathers old business.

Let us imagine two different people from different classes. Suppose that they areett and Jason.ett is born to the upper class. His father is a lawyer and his mother is a doctor. His parents send him to a well-known private school, which has a great academic reputation. After graduating from a private school, he may join a great college like Harvard or Stanford. We can visualize the next scene very easily. He gains a kind of well paying job that is similar to his parents job and marries a woman who has lived a similar life as him. Definitely, etts children will have the same opportunities as he had. So, his families and offspring continue their successful life.

On the other hand, Jason is born in the lower class. He has manyothers and sisters. His father works in a steel factory and his mother is a washer in a school who earns a cheap salary. Jasons parents do not pay any attention to his education because their parents also did not have any interest. That is why Jason is not interested in academic subjects like Math, English or science subjects like Physics or Chemistry. Can he get good grades and come to a college? Probably not. So, his family maintain on a poor lifestyle.

My assumption may be a severe example of two different classes because there are many exceptions in our society. For instance, a bagger is able to make huge lottery success. On the other hand, some rich people can loose their money if they are addicted in reckless gamble. However, my assumption can be possible. What is the main cause to divide two mens lives? It might be wealth or different life circumstances. However, the most important factor is education. As an example, ett and Jason may live like their parents. If parents have a comfortable life situation, they focus on their childrens education. Thus, their children would have more attention, and interest about studying and learning. But, if parents are struggling with their life, they cannot focus on their childrens education because there are many places to concentrate their attention like earning money. Here is an example of the result that education can make. Gaines said, "If your parents are losers, its because their parents were. Its just that way" (Gaines 54). In other words, looser makes another same kind of looser and winner makes winners.

As she has mentioned, students who graduate from a votec school have individual dreams and hopes. However, there is little possibility to get a high paying job that they want and move to the upper class. Because of their lack of education, they just earn a little money for their life. Gaines describes their situation critically in this example "The American dream wont work for them, and nobody has bothered to explain why. So they find their concentrated effort and motivation only lead to an extra dollar an hour" (Gaines 54). American dream can be an exit for lower class people. As we know, any lower class people want to move to the upper class. Thus, lower class people might think that American Dream can come to them no matter when it is. Any lower class people are happy when they think they enjoy higher class life.

However, the real world is different from their sweet imagine. After all, they have to do their boring job for their life. The inability to improve their life quality is the result of the lack of education. American dream does not come to everybody. American dream can come to someone who prepare an opportunity, practice his or her ability and think positive thought. Votec school may provide some skills like usage of machine. But that is all votec can give to students.

The essay "The Professions as Class Fortune" by Barbara Ehrenreich presents that education tends to divide the social classes. Also, the capacity of money is a key how education is organized well. For example, if a student wants to join a high quality college, he or she would pay lots of money for tuition. Certainly, lower class families cannot pay for that. Therefore, nowadays, if someone wants to learn more knowledge, he or she should have both a passion for study and money.

Some critics and people insist that the capacity for money and wealth should not determine ones life and their quality of education. Unfortunately, the recent situation is different from their thought. If someone wants to obtain a well paying job, he or she should have several advantages that lower class people cannot have. Of course, these assumptions do not apply in every case, each person. But, the capacity of money determines the quality of education. Furthermore, education is major factor to make a lifestyle and the quality of lifestyle comes from what kind of education people have. Recently, each social class has people who have similar background or job. So, Education is a major factor to determine ones life. That is why the education makes a wall between each class of our society.

I have been a prostitute. My mother has been a prostitute. Practically every woman who has had sex has been a prostitute. The New Encyclopædiaitannica describes prostitution as "the practice of engaging in relatively indiscriminate sexual activity…in exchange for immediate payment in money or other valuables (77)." According to this definition of prostitution, any woman who has ever had sex with someone and received something of value is guilty of prostitution. Prostitution is a problem in every major city in America. Many people argue that legalizing prostitution would only cause more problems, but I feel that it could only help our country in a number of ways.

Frank Schmalleger, Ph.D. argues that prostitution is a victimization of the prostitute (58). This just is not so. A woman who chooses to become a prostitute normally does so of her own free will. When a prostitute chooses a "john", she is choosing to have consensual sex between two adults. Where is the victim in that? She is choosing to sell her body for money. She has the right to choose this profession and be protected by the law. The only difference between a prostitute and a woman going on a date where the man spends money on her, then expects sex, is that the prostitute receives the cash instead of goods. There are also the arguments that prostitution is morally wrong and would promote adultery, therefore, should be against the law in the United States (Bitterman). In a country that strives so hard to separate the state from the church, it seems that this should not be an issue about morality. To decide if prostitution is morally right or wrong is the choice of the people, not the government. Just as many people consider smoking, drinking and pornography immoral, it is legal and a personal choice, as prostitution should also be.

Legalization of prostitution would only better the life of a prostitute and profit the government in return. The first major benefit would be taxation. The government could finally acknowledge prostitution as a profession and put it in a taxacket. By taxation, prostitutes could receive the benefits of insurance and social security. Cities and states could receive the benefits of court costs and police time. "Prostitution in The United States-The Statistics" cites "Average arrest, court cost, and incarceration costs amounts nearly $,000.00 per arrest. Cities spend an average of 7.5 million dollars on prostitution control every year, ranging from 1 million dollars (Memphis) to million dollars (New York)(P. 1). The money saved from court cost and police time could be better spent helping prostitutes who wish to choose another profession receive a higher education. The police and courts could spend their time looking for and prosecuting the real hard core criminals. Taxation could alsoing in more money for the state and government by being able to tax the money made. The typical 0 billion a year prostitution business cost the government an average .5 to billion dollars in uncollected taxes.

Legalizing prostitution would enable the government to regulate it just as they have alcohol. They could mandate regular medical examinations and drug screenings of prostitutes on a regular basis, helping to reduce the spread of sexually transmitted diseases and drug addiction. This could also control the number of abortions performed and crack babies born each year. The government could also issue zones for prostitution which would take prostitution off the streets and in private, therefore cleaning up our streets. This would also eliminate the need for a pimp. Pimps are the main abusers in the prostitution world. Not only do they beat their prostitutes, but many take as much as 80% of the money that is made, then get the prostitutes hooked on drugs to ensure that the prostitute will continue to work. With prostitution legal, the only people who benefit from it are pimps and organized criminals.

Sexually transmitted diseases are another problem of prostitution. Although prostitution is only responsible for a small percentage of STDs in America, legalizing prostitution could reduce this number greatly. Presently, Nevada is the only state that has legalized prostitution and is proof that it could work. Sarah McNaught states in her article Street Smarts

The government oversees privately-runothels, but they must be far away from residential areas, and streetwalking is still illegal. (Most of the counties that currently allow prostitution are rural.) The government regulates contraceptive use, medical testing, advertising, revenue, and licensing. It seems to be working. Since HIV testing began in 186, there has not been one positive test among the states prostitutes, according to Randall Todd, chief of the Nevada State Health Divisions Bureau of Disease Control and Intervention Services. The number of syphilis cases among sex workers has dropped to between 0 and 5, from 400 to 500 prior to 186. (P. 18)

Legalizing prostitution would eliminate children getting into prostitution due to government regulations. By enforcing an age limit and making prostitutes register with the government, children will no longer be able to enter in the work force of prostitution.

The benefits of legalizing prostitution are far more than those of keeping it a crime. Prostitutes could only gain from a better and safer working environment while the government could gain from the profits of taxation. It makes no sense to keep prostitution illegal when so many people will gain from legalization, and so many lose from it being illegal.

In the movie Batman Returns starring Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Christopher Walken and Michelle Pfeiffer and directed by Tim Burton there is an outstanding job done in creating the mood and specific character traits and character costumes of the Penguin. Tim Burton does an excellent job creating the Penguins lair. The penguins lair is an underground hideaway that is built in a sewer/run down Arctic exhibit that houses a plethora of penguins, evil goons and Oswald Cobblepot (The Penguin) . The outer walls are cold, solid concrete with ledges surrounding a small island in the center which holds the penguins throne. Surrounding the throne island is a moat of ice cold water which also contains abandoned toxic waste. This is set up is visually chilling because of the very bland colors used.[If you are reading this and marking it as a paper then some dumb punk has neglected to read all of what he/she is plagerizing] To intensify the Penguins cold and twisted character Burton has the lair bathed in a pale blue light and the temperature dropped so that the characterseath is visible on screen. The pale blue light creates an even visually colder environment because the blue creates an erratic display of shadows and reflections from the moat on the dull cement walls. The uniform cement is perfect for the penguins character because it is very cold and dull. This does not draw the viewers attention away from the Penguin or his henchmen. Another very effective method used by Burton was to make the characterseathe visible while in the Penguins lair. When an audience sees the steam ofeath they assume harsh frozen conditions. These harsh conditions add to the penguins cold sadistic personality.

Burton also does an excellent job at portraying Danny De Vito as the Penguin. The Penguin (AKA Oswald Cobblepot) was abandon as a child because of radical abnormalities. He was then raised by a group of Sideshow performers. The penguin has two costumes, the first being a soiled pair of pajamas. This is a very effective costume because it presents the Penguins pear like form.[If you are reading this and marking it as a paper then some dumb punk has neglected to read all of what he/she is plagerizing] The pajamas are tight enough to emphasize his physique. The Penguin is played by Danny De Vito so the character is naturally short, he also has a beak like nose, sharp serrated teeth and large black rings around his eyes with long unkempt hair and pale ghostly skin. He also appears to be over weight with short stubby, flipper like arms. The pajamas the Penguin wears appear to be very dirty and are stained with fish guts and other animal products. This costume adds to the cruel and sadistic traits that the penguin possesses. When the pale blue light hits him he becomes illuminated in a blue light causing the rings on his pale face to intensify causing a very demonic appearance which is then multiplied by the blood soaked Pjs. The Penguins second Costume is a top hat and a dirty tuxedo with black leather gloves. This is very ironic because he is attempting to look normal but the costume presents his image more as a penguin. This costume attempts to hide his pear like shape but only does so well, he is still very disturbing with his pale complexion and black rings under his eyes. As the movie progresses his tuxedo slowly digresses. An example of this is he is constantly eating raw fish and getting the fish guts all over himself. These both help develop his character throughout the movie.

So in conclusion Tim Burton does an excellent job creating the Penguins character through set and costume design.Professional writers help on Batman Returns essays

Beverly Cleary

Ramona Quimby has been a favorite character for several generations of readers. Stories about Ramona continue to appeal to children because they provide comfort, humor, and insight as well as entertainment. Many people feel they, or someone they know, have a little, or maybe a whole lot, of Ramona in them. Readers of all ages can relate to Ramona because she experiences the same emotionsfears, disappointment, anger, confusion, joythat most children experience. Ramona is not always a perfect child, but is an endearing one. She gets angry and frustrated, but she struggles to learn the self-control and patience her parents and teachers expect. Her desire for attention and her feelings of embarrassment and confusion cause many children to identify with her; and her resilience, creativity, and pure love of life make her someone to be admired, even emulated. Some of the situations in which Ramona finds herself evoke sympathy, while others are just plain funny. Theightly colored covers and lively line illustrations (by Darling and/or Tiegreen) highlight the pervasive high energy present throughout the series.

Beverly Cleary presents Ramonas life in chapter books. In Beezus and Ramona, Beezus, who is just turning ten, finds four-year-old Ramona an exasperating little sister who invites her nursery school friends to an unplanned party, takes one bite out of each apple in the box, and spoils her birthday caketwice. Ramona becomes the focus of Clearys next book, Ramona the Pest, in which Ramona goes to kindergarten. She is disappointed when they do not learn to read the first. Getting new red rain boots and being the "baddest witch in the world" for Halloween help, but Ramona becomes a temporary kindergarten dropout when pulls Susans curls.

First grade gets off to a bad start in Ramona theave when the class teases Ramona for exaggerating. This year she must adjust to her mother working part-time as well as coping with the fear of sleeping alone in her new room. Susan still annoys Ramona, and Mrs. Griggs does not seem to like her. However, learning to read makes first grade worthwhile after all.

In Ramona and Her Father, Ramona is starting second grade when Mr. Quimby loses his job. Ramona has more time with her father now, but she is worried because her unemployed father is often cross, her mother is anxious about money, and Beezus is frequently disagreeable. Ramona is determined to save her fathers life by helping him quit smoking. When Mr. Quimby finds another job, Ramonas family seems to be returning to the family she is used to.

Ramona and Her Mother begins on New Years Day with a celeation of Mr. Quimbys new job. Mrs.Quimby continues to work. Ramona, who is now in the second half of second grade, spends a lot of time longing to be her mothers girl. She practices twitching her nose frequently, but ultimately decides to run away from home. When her mother tells her she could not get along without her, Ramonas hurt feelings dissolve, and she is content once again.

Cleary continues to follow Ramonas life through Ramona Quimby, Age 8; Ramona Forever; and Ramonas World.

Like most youngest children, Ramona acts up with her family when she doesnt get what she wants. She is curious, finding life interesting and always wanting to discover what will happen next. She is often impatient and confused. Things dont always work as Ramona expects they will, but she is a lively, creative child with strong problem-solving skills. Although she loves to be the center of attention, she doesnt like others to be amused by her when she is being serious. However, she sometimes tries to be amusing to divert family tensions. Ramona frequently experiences disappointments, which makes growing up difficult, but she keeps trying. Ramona is clearly a character children can relate to.

Recurring characters in Clearys books are Beezus, Ramonas older sister; Dorothy Quimby, her mother; Bob Quimby, her father; Picky Picky, the Quimbys cat; and Aunt Beatrice, Ramonas aunt. Through the series Ramona lives on Klickitat Street in Portland, Oregon, and attends Glenwood School through second grade.

The Ramona books lend themselves to a host of related activities. "I cant read and it isnt fair," protests Ramona in Beezus and Ramona when Beezus refuses to read to her all the time. Throughout the books, Ramonas love affair with books grows. As a preschooler, her favorite picture books are about steam shovels with lots of noises and fairy tales with witches, goblins, or ogres. At night, however, she prefers cozy stories about nice bears and bunnies. When Ramona daydreams about having her mother all to herself in Ramona and Her Mother, she imagines her mother selecting books from her bookcase that she enjoyed hearing as a child. Using the descriptions Cleary provides

throughout the various Ramona books, ask students to figure out what books might be in Ramonas bookcase. Students could also set up a Ramona bookcase in the classroom and and read the books Ramona loves.

In Ramona and Her Father, Beezus, who dreads creative writing because she does not believe she is imaginative, is relieved when the assignment is to "interview an old person and ask questions about something they did when they were our age." The

interviews written by Beezuss classmates will be compiled into a class book. Students could undertake a similar assignment.

Ramona enjoys crayoning because it makes her troubles fade. She draws unusually well, and she can make almost anything out of paper, crayons, staples, and Scotch tape. She and her father work on drawing the longest picture in the world on a roll of shelf paper. They draw the state of Oregon by choosing important landmarks such as the interstate highway and Mount Hood. Students might want replicate this task using New York and its landmarks.

The Ramona series should be wonderful read-alouds. Teachers may want to read all eight books to the class over the course of the year, or they may decide to select the books that take place in the same grade their students are in and read those to the whole class. These highly creative books appeal to children of all ages and understandably have withstood the test of time, entertaining generations of young readers.

Beverly Cleary

Like Ramona, Beverly Cleary was born and raised in a small town in Oregon. As the daughter of the acting town liarian, she grew up with a love of books. When her family moved to Portland, where Ms. Cleary attended elementary and high school, she found herself in the "low reading circle" and consequently developed sympathy for the problems of struggling readers. By third grade, though, her reading excelled and her school liarian suggested she become a writer of childrens books when she grew up; she decided then that someday she would write the books she longed to read but was unable to find on the liary shelves, funny stories about her neighborhood and the sort of children she knew.

After graduating from college she attended the School of Liarianship at the University of Washington, Seattle. There she specialized in liary work with children. Work as a liarianought her into contact with all sorts of youngsters, but it was the highly creative and unusual children who truly inspired her to write books she believed they would connect with.
